Nokia shares finished Friday's session at EUR 9.47, up 2.2%, catching a lift from a buoyant mood on Wall Street following the latest U.S. jobs report. No single company-specific catalyst drove the move, yet the Finnish telecom equipment maker has been busy reshaping its portfolio and deepening partnerships on several fronts — all of it building toward an October 22, 2026 date with investors, when the group reports third-quarter and nine-month results.

A Bet on Sovereign Satellite Communications

The most striking of Nokia's recent moves came on Thursday, when it struck a partnership with ICEYE to develop sovereign satellite communications in low Earth orbit. Reuters reported that the venture targets government and agency customers in defense, border security and disaster response. According to Nokia, the first satellites are expected to launch in 2028.

That announcement landed alongside a significant portfolio adjustment. Inseego disclosed Thursday that it had completed its acquisition of Nokia's wireless fixed-wireless access business. Under the terms, Nokia received roughly 1.9 million Inseego shares — about an 11% stake — plus warrants for up to approximately 800,000 additional shares. Nokia also committed to a USD 10 million cash payment to Inseego by October 15, 2026, earmarked to support development work.

Together, the two transactions illustrate a deliberate narrowing of focus: Nokia is shedding hardware operations it no longer considers core while directing resources toward higher-margin network technologies and specialized government-sector opportunities.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?

Deepfield Deployment and an AI Data Play

Infrastructure partnerships are advancing in parallel. In Saudi Arabia, mobile operator Zain KSA has rolled out Nokia's Deepfield Cloud Intelligence platform across a network spanning more than 100 cities, delivering real-time visibility into network load. Nokia announced the deployment on September 29.

On the artificial intelligence side, Nokia and Microsoft unveiled on September 17 a joint effort to build an agent-based, unified data foundation. The combination of the Nokia Data Suite with Microsoft Fabric is designed to enable AI-driven operation of telecommunications networks.

A day earlier, Nokia had reported that several carriers — among them A1 Group, Chunghwa Telecom, du, e&, Mobily, stc, TPG Telecom and Zain Saudi — are running field trials and test runs for AI-RAN on NVIDIA platforms. Nokia pegged the spectral efficiency gain delivered by its platform at more than 20%.

Analyst Coverage, Index Inclusion and a Key Technical Level

Sentiment has found additional support from the analyst community. B. Riley initiated coverage of Nokia on September 17 with a Buy rating and a USD 15 price target.

The stock also drew attention for its promotion to the EURO STOXX 50 index, effective September 21. Friday's advance left the shares trading above their 50-day moving average of EUR 8.82.

With a gain of 69% since the start of the year, the share price already reflects much of the strategic overhaul. Whether those repositioning steps translate into stronger financials will become clearer when Nokia publishes its interim report on October 22, 2026.
