Nokia's 2027 Roadmap: Fiber Card, SoftBank Trial and Campus Edge Sale All Await Their Moment

Nokia has handed 2,142,361 of its own shares to participants in its equity-based compensation programs, the company disclosed on Thursday. The transfer, made without consideration, involved both rank-and-file program participants and senior managers, and was spread across several notifications on executive transactions plus one on the change in the company's holding of treasury shares.

Anyone reading that disclosure as a sign that insiders are betting their own money on a Nokia recovery should think again. These were awards under existing remuneration schemes, not open-market purchases. No voluntary buying decision took place, and no view on the stock's valuation can be inferred from the recipients' side. For a read on the business itself, investors have to look elsewhere — to the operating announcements, and to the distinctions between what has been promised, what is being tested and what has actually been signed off.

A fiber card with a 2027 horizon

Nokia unveiled a flexible line card for fiber networks on October 12. The hardware supports multiple PON technologies at every port, including 25G and 50G PON, and general availability is targeted for 2027. That makes the launch a product extension rather than a revenue event: the announcement describes technical capability and a delivery window, not income already booked.

The same caveat applies to the commercial AI-RAN field trial agreed with SoftBank. Set for Japan in 2027, the test will run under commercial network traffic conditions and combine Nokia's anyRAN software, SoftBank's AITRAS platform and technology from NVIDIA. Financial terms were not disclosed. As with the fiber card, the implementation step still lies ahead of the company.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?

One project already has a customer behind it

Not every item in the pipeline is a promise. On October 6, Brazil's RNP selected Nokia and Q13 to modernize the rede Ipê research and education network — a named customer win that stands apart from the fiber card and carries a different weight than a product launch.

Portfolio changes are moving on a separate track. Roughly a week ago, Nokia agreed to sell its Enterprise Campus Edge business to AURELIUS, with closing expected in the first half of 2027, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals. The transaction is signed, not completed.

The near-term checkpoint

The most immediate date on the calendar is the interim report for the third quarter and the January-to-September 2026 period, due October 22 at around 8:00 a.m. Finnish time. An analyst call follows the same day at 3:00 p.m. Finnish time.

Nokia at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

That report will supply the next hard financial read on the company. The fiber card, the SoftBank trial and the Campus Edge divestment each sit at a different stage of maturity — announced, planned and agreed respectively — and none of them, on the strength of its announcement alone, yet proves an additional contribution to earnings.
