Nokia has stacked up a run of product, partnership and portfolio announcements that give investors plenty to sort through before the company's next set of numbers lands on October 22, 2026. The common thread running through them is that most describe work still ahead — trials to be run, hardware to ship, a divestment to close — rather than revenue already booked.

A Japan trial with a fixed date

Under an agreement announced by the Finnish vendor, Nokia and SoftBank will put AI-driven mobile networks through their paces in Japan in 2027, testing under live commercial traffic conditions rather than in an isolated lab. The setup combines Nokia's anyRAN software with SoftBank's AITRAS platform and accelerated computing hardware from NVIDIA, pulling all three companies into a single project.

That commercial-traffic framing is what gives the arrangement its weight. It is a field trial with a named partner, a defined technical stack and a concrete timetable — but it is not the same thing as a broad commercial rollout. For shareholders, the near-term focus sits on execution and on what the test eventually shows.

The SoftBank deal runs alongside a separate push on AI for networks. Nokia and MEO broadened their cooperation on Wednesday through a joint innovation program, according to media reports, with AI applications to be trialed in live network environments. That work covers network management, monitoring and optimization — a different set of tasks from the SoftBank combination, though both keep one foot in real-world network operations. The two projects carry their own technical priorities and should be judged on their own terms rather than lumped together as a single order.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?

Fiber hardware and a Brazilian contract

On the product side, Nokia unveiled a flexible line card for fiber networks on Monday. The card carries 16 ports and supports multiple PON generations on each connection, including 50G PON, with general availability targeted for 2027. Nokia's pitch rests less on raw speed than on letting operators mix fiber generations across a single port. As with the Japan trial, the announcement sketches out a future offering; no revenue contribution can be read off it yet.

A firmer customer signal came on October 6, when Nokia said Brazil's RNP had picked the company and Q13 to modernize the rede Ipê research and education network. That network is designed to connect more than four million users and deliver aggregate capacity of 4.8 Tbps. Separately, Arelion reported on October 8 on a trial along the 500-kilometer Amsterdam–London route, where Nokia optical technology expanded the usable optical spectrum by roughly 21 percent.

Portfolio pruning and the October checkpoint

Nokia is also trimming its business. On Tuesday it agreed to sell the Enterprise Campus Edge unit to AURELIUS; the division serves close to 900 customers, according to the company. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals.

Nokia at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Taken together, the stretch paints a two-sided picture: Nokia is widening its technical portfolio while simultaneously handing off a piece of it. The third-quarter and January–September 2026 interim report on October 22 is the next scheduled moment for gauging how operations are tracking against all of these product and portfolio moves.
