Nebius Stock: Rate Fears and a 12-Year US Capacity Deal Pull the AI Infrastructure Story in Two Directions

Nebius shares are proving to be a weather vane for the entire AI infrastructure trade, and this week the wind has blown from both directions. The stock added 2.9% on the day to reach EUR 201.70, clawing back ground after a bruising session in which it shed 7.5% to close at EUR 195.94. No company-specific announcement explained the rebound — the paper simply rode a broad countermovement in US markets, where equity futures recovered noticeably after heavy losses in the technology sector the previous day.
That earlier slump had less to do with Nebius itself than with the mood surrounding it. General market pressure, compounded by reports of reliability problems at data centers operated by rival IREN, weighed on so-called neocloud specialists across the board. The episode says plenty about how twitchy the market has become toward any disturbance in the data center complex. Yet the daily noise obscures the operational groundwork the company is quietly laying.
A Twelve-Year Contract and a Software Tuck-In
Set aside the tick-by-tick swings and a more deliberate picture emerges. On September 30, AIB Data Centers announced a binding agreement with Nebius running for twelve years, covering 50 megawatts of critical IT capacity at an AIB facility in the southeastern United States. Secured power and floor space are the true currency of the AI business — without them, every software promise rings hollow — and Nebius is locking them down early.
The company also moved to deepen its software stack. Roughly a week ago it acquired Inferize to bolster production inference on its Nebius Token Factory platform. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the strategic logic is straightforward: Nebius is pulling specialists and technology in-house to squeeze more efficiency out of compute during model deployment. A product update followed around the same time, adding Cloud Interconnect and dynamic pricing for preemptible VMs.
Wall Street Steps In
Analysts provided a tailwind of their own. On Wednesday, John McPeake of Rosenblatt Securities initiated coverage of Nebius with a Buy rating and a $304 price target. The call reflects confidence that a dedicated supplier of demanding AI infrastructure can take share in a market still hungry for capacity.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?
Not every headline was bullish. Chief Infrastructure Officer Andrey Korolenko disclosed the sale of 29,090 Class A ordinary shares to cover tax obligations — the kind of transaction that historically says little about management's operational conviction. A separate disposal drew more attention: COO Ophir Nave offloaded 500,000 shares on Monday under a trading plan adopted May 22, 2026, in accordance with Rule 10b5-1. In a jittery tape, such sales can weigh on sentiment regardless of their mechanical nature.
The Refinancing Question Hangs Over the Buildout
What is genuinely testing the stock is the cost of money. Rising US Treasury yields have stoked fears of sharply more expensive credit for capital-intensive data centers, and Nebius came under pressure in lockstep with other cloud and compute specialists. After the rapid expansion of recent months, the market has reached a point where it is re-pricing how the expensive hardware offensive will be refinanced. For investors, the focus is shifting from pure growth promises to a harder question: how sustainable is the funding of further expansion when rates move against you?
Building modern data centers to deliver specialized AI compute devours enormous sums, much of it necessarily financed with debt. Climbing bond yields make new loans immediately costlier and press on future margins. According to media reports, debt-financed infrastructure names wobbled considerably more than the broader technology sector. At the same time, strategic shifts among the tech giants are redrawing the landscape — when hyperscalers such as Meta build out their own compute capacity, the long-term utilization of external neocloud providers comes under scrutiny. The decisive issue for Nebius is whether demand for compute stays strong enough to pass rising financing costs on to customers through pricing.
Where the Bull and Bear Cases Collide
In the optimistic scenario, Nebius differentiates its platform sharply enough that clients pay stable prices despite the competition. The Inferize acquisition, folding inference optimization directly into the Token Factory platform, plus early-month enhancements to Nebius AI Cloud, platform services and inference process management, are the building blocks of that efficiency edge. If the company can convert it into operating leverage, utilization and cash flow should hold up — a path Rosenblatt's $304 target endorses.
The central risk is a double squeeze of higher rates and shrinking pricing power. Should bond yields stay elevated or push higher, interest expenses on new data centers could eat into operating returns. That pressure intensifies if large corporations ramp up their own infrastructure and expand the market's supply of compute. If utilization slips or compute prices come under pressure while financing burdens rise, a meaningful downward re-rating of the entire business model becomes a real possibility.
The Chart Level That Matters Now
Technically, the stock's footing is the near-term battleground. Despite Thursday's setback, the shares remain up 167% year to date, leaving substantial gains from recent months on the table. As long as the price can stabilize above its 50-day moving average of EUR 195.20, the medium-term uptrend stays intact; a sustained break below that mark would likely unlock further selling pressure and widen the gap to its 52-week high.
The next concrete catalyst is the upcoming quarterly report, when management must show how much the rate environment is actually slowing expansion and whether the Inferize integration is already delivering measurable efficiency gains in live operations. Year to date the stock has gained 174% on some measures — a run that inevitably brings phases of profit-taking and outsized swings when markets get restless. Against that, the long-term capacity contracts and the deliberate strengthening of the software architecture form a solid foundation. Dependence on the broader tech mood remains high in the short run, but heading into the next set of numbers, the opportunities still outweigh the risks.
