Nebius beats revenue estimates, raises power capacity target to 5GW, but financing and volatility remain key risks.

The market's verdict on Nebius's second-quarter scorecard was swift and emphatic. Shares of the Amsterdam-listed AI infrastructure group rocketed as much as 28 percent to €214.50 on Wednesday, a move that carried the stock decisively past its 50-day moving average of €193.10 and delivered one of the sharpest single-session advances since the shares bottomed at €52.50-equivalent territory in August 2025. The jump came despite a headline loss that would have sunk a lesser growth story.

Revenue for the quarter landed at $582.3 million, a 454 percent surge year-over-year and a clean beat against the $572.75 million consensus figure that analysts had penciled in. The bottom line, however, told a different story: a GAAP net loss from continuing operations of $190.4 million, or $0.68 per share, flipping from the $584.4 million profit the company recorded in the year-ago period. That swing reflects the brutal economics of building hyperscale AI infrastructure before the revenue catches up.

Management kept its full-year 2026 revenue guidance intact at $3.0 billion to $3.4 billion, but the more consequential number came from the capacity side. Nebius raised its year-end target for contracted power capacity from 4 gigawatts to 5 gigawatts, signaling that demand for compute remains voracious. The company also disclosed its first short-term capacity agreement, signed in the third quarter at a price point of $40 million to $50 million per megawatt — a figure that followed a successful auction pilot for infrastructure running on Nvidia's Blackwell chips.

The Financing Question Hangs Over the Rally

The euphoria obscures a more sobering calculation that will likely determine whether this rally has legs. Nebius is funding its buildout with a $775 million secured credit facility completed on July 17, collateralized against deployed GPU hardware and contracted customer payment streams. The facility carries an interest rate of SOFR plus 2.50 percent and matures in October 2030. Lenders' willingness to take hardware and contracts as security is a meaningful vote of confidence — but it also means the company's debt-service capacity is now directly tied to utilization rates and customer contract performance holding steady.

If demand for AI compute softens or large projects slip, the pressure on that facility intensifies. The stock's annualized volatility of 153.24 percent over the past 30 days is a reminder that moves like Wednesday's can reverse just as violently if the details in the earnings report — margins, customer concentration, utilization — reveal cracks upon closer inspection.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?

Heavyweight Validation and a Contrarian Bet

The bull case draws strength from an unusually prominent endorsement. Nvidia disclosed in a mid-July Schedule 13G filing a passive stake of 9.3 percent in Nebius, a position that many market participants read as institutional validation of the infrastructure-rental model. The company has also been shoring up its executive ranks, appointing Lindsey Irvine as chief marketing officer in early August, a hire framed as part of its global expansion following a year of record growth.

On the other side of the ledger sits a well-known skeptic. Reports from the day before the earnings release indicated that Michael Burry's Scion Asset Management had established a short position in Nebius at an entry price of roughly $212, citing execution risks in data-center construction and doubts about the durability of AI infrastructure demand. That thesis now faces a stiff test: the stock trades well above Burry's entry point, and the capacity guidance raise undercuts at least part of the bearish narrative.

Wall Street's reaction has been largely supportive. Goldman Sachs reiterated its "Buy" rating with a $286 price target on Wednesday, pointing to sustained pricing power and noting that the company has effectively sold out its entire 2027 capacity at current terms. Citi also reaffirmed its "Buy/High Risk" call with a $278 target, flagging that adjusted EBITDA of $236.2 million blew past expectations even if the revenue beat itself was more modest.

What Comes Next

The company has been stacking up operational wins beyond the quarter. In late July, Nebius signed a multi-year contract with Reflection AI valued at over $1 billion through 2029 for GPU-based cloud services. It also brought its "Vera Rubin" compute rack online at its Finnish data center, expanding European capacity with Nvidia's next-generation technology.

Strategically, the company is deepening its AI ambitions through talent acquisition: the core engineering and research team from Clarifai is joining Nebius, with founder Matthew Zeiler taking the role of SVP of Research. Nebius is also licensing Clarifai's inference and compute-orchestration technology as part of the arrangement.

At €214.50, the stock sits about 18 percent below its June high of €261.00, with a market capitalization of roughly €40.50 billion. The gap between the current price and the 52-week low of €53.50 underscores how far the shares have traveled — and how much of the growth story is already priced in.

The near-term catalyst is now the analyst and institutional response to the earnings details, which will play out over the coming days in revised estimates and portfolio positioning. For investors, the operative question is less about the headline revenue beat and more about whether the contracted cash flows backing that 2030 credit facility are as durable as management insists. The market has voted with its feet for now; the financing math will have the final say.
