Nebius is growing at a pace that few companies in the AI infrastructure space can match — and spending at a pace that raises just as many questions. The Amsterdam-based cloud specialist reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $582.3 million, a 454% jump from the $105.1 million booked in the same period a year earlier, as demand for specialized AI compute capacity continues to outstrip supply.

The top-line explosion has translated into a striking operational turnaround. Adjusted EBITDA came in at $236.2 million for the quarter, reversing a $21.0 million operating loss from the prior-year period. Yet the bottom line tells a different story: Nebius posted a diluted loss of $0.68 per share, a gap that reflects the sheer weight of upfront spending on hardware and network infrastructure needed to keep pace with the capacity demands of major technology clients.

That spending is anything but modest. Infrastructure purchases alone consumed $5.657 billion during the quarter. Management is targeting an annualized revenue run rate of between $7 billion and $9 billion by the end of the 2026 fiscal year, while contracted power capacity is slated to reach five gigawatts by year-end.

A $46 Billion Backlog — and a $250 Billion Question

Underpinning those ambitions is a long-term order book worth up to $46 billion, anchored by agreements with hyperscalers including Meta and Microsoft. Nebius also closed four contracts during the quarter, each carrying an average total value north of $1 billion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?

The scale of the opportunity is not in dispute. What is less clear is how it gets financed. Speaking at an industry conference on September 9, CEO Arkady Volozh pegged the total funding requirement for the five gigawatts of compute capacity planned through 2030 at roughly $250 billion — of which only about 20% has been secured so far. A convertible bond issued roughly a month ago raised gross proceeds of approximately $5.75 billion, a substantial sum in isolation but a fraction of the long-term bill. Further dilution or costly debt issuance appears all but inevitable.

Analysts, for their part, remain constructive. Truist Financial initiated coverage on September 9 with a Buy rating and a $355.00 price target, estimating the addressable cloud market could reach $2.1 trillion by 2030. That upgrade followed on the heels of a fresh Buy recommendation issued a day earlier, both built on expectations that new partnerships will accelerate growth in commercial AI infrastructure.

Insider Selling Draws a Contrasting Signal

Not everyone in Nebius's orbit is leaning into the rally. Over a 90-day window, company insiders executed 33 transactions selling shares worth approximately $27.8 million. The sellers included the CEO, the CTO, and other senior executives. Booking profits after a steep run-up is entirely legitimate, but the timing — with a $200 billion funding gap still unresolved — offers anything but an unequivocal vote of confidence in the near-term valuation.

The Palantir partnership announced roughly a week ago, which named Nebius the preferred partner for sovereign AI infrastructure, was a clear milestone for the company's market reputation. It has not, however, been enough to halt recent downward pressure. Strategic alliances of that kind do not address the core challenge: the extreme capital intensity baked into the business model.

Nebius at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Market Reaction and the Road Ahead

The stock's recent trajectory captures the tension. Shares changed hands at €184.00 with a 2.4% gain earlier in the session, before pushing higher to €188.20 for a 4.7% advance on the day. Since the start of the year, the equity has climbed 156% — a near-doubling that reflects investor enthusiasm for any sign of scaling in the compute market. Even so, the Palantir announcement has been followed by a 10.3% decline in the share price.

For the full year, management is guiding toward revenue of between $3.0 billion and $3.4 billion. Whether Nebius can convert its massive infrastructure outlays into sustainable free cash flow — and do so without leaning too heavily on shareholders — will determine whether the current valuation holds. The growth story remains intact; the financing path to get there is where the real test lies.
