Mutares Explores Nordic Exit for Nord Gas Solutions as Bond Refinancing Looms
Published on 10/19/2026 at 16:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deMutares is weighing a possible listing of its Nord Gas Solutions subsidiary in Northern Europe, the German holding company confirmed, with financial advisers already engaged to sound out strategic exit options. No final decision has been taken on whether to pursue an initial public offering, and any float would depend on market conditions and the outcome of the review. Should the company go ahead, Mutares intends to remain a significant shareholder, subject to customary lock-up arrangements.
The timing reflects the scale the energy unit has reached. Nord Gas Solutions turned over roughly EUR 459 million in the first nine months of 2026, up sharply from EUR 283 million a year earlier, while adjusted EBITDA doubled from EUR 20 million to EUR 43 million over the same stretch. At September 30, 2026, the order backlog stood at EUR 880 million. Management is guiding toward full-year revenue above EUR 575 million and adjusted EBITDA of about EUR 50 million.
News of the exit review, reported by dpa-AFX, lifted Mutares shares by as much as 5% at one point on Wednesday. The stock closed Friday at EUR 24.90. On Monday it was changing hands at EUR 25.20, a gain of 1.2% on the day.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Mutares?
Fresh Capital and a Refinancing Window
The Nord Gas plans sit within a broader reshaping of the portfolio. Mutares completed its acquisition of Steinmüller Engineering GmbH from IHI Corporation through a share deal, adding a business with roughly EUR 100 million in total output last year and around 170 employees. The company slots into the Energy & Technology segment as a new platform investment.
On the disposal side, an irrevocable offer from Italian entrepreneurs for a controlling stake in France's Lapeyre Group has been on the table for about two weeks, with Mutares set to retain a minority position. The group also moved on its debt: a partial buyback of its floating-rate bond saw it repurchase paper with a nominal value of EUR 10.4 million, and it plans to refinance the remaining EUR 222 million in the second half of the fourth quarter of 2026.
A Year of Contrasts for Shareholders
The operational strides have yet to translate into share price gains. Since the start of the year the stock has fallen 16%, leaving a market capitalization of EUR 635.32 million. Management is counting on a combination of organic growth at existing holdings and fresh acquisitions to rebuild investor confidence.
Investors will get a fuller picture of the group's financial health on November 12, 2026, when Mutares publishes its quarterly statement for the third quarter.
