Mosbach's town hall has added an extra one-hour health walk to its corporate health management programme, citing strong public demand. The session is set for 04.11. at 10:00, with participants gathering at the car park of the Verdi education centre (Verdi-Bildungsstätte) in the Bergfeld district.

Volunteer health ambassadors will lead the route. Organisers stress that the point is not athletic performance but sociability, everyday movement and discovering the local area.

No fee, no registration, no fitness test

Anyone can join free of charge and without signing up in advance. The format is open to people of all ages, whatever their fitness level or prior experience. Only extreme weather would force cancellation.

Looking ahead, the municipal authority already plans further running groups (Lauftreffs) for 2027 to keep the offering going long term. Health manager Jennifer Amend-Groß handles questions and organisational details on 06261/82287 or by email.

The walks form part of a wider push on health promotion that also reaches into local schools. On Wednesday 07.10., Mosbach staged a free workshop on building concentration and impulse control in children, again led by Amend-Groß and aimed at everyone involved in shaping the school day.

Its focus was on strengthening executive functions — working memory, cognitive flexibility and inhibition — through targeted physical activity. Alongside theoretical input on digital media use and children's self-regulation, the workshop taught practical methods: movement breaks, rhythm exercises, reaction games and a moving version of the card game "Halli Galli".

Heidelberg researchers rate two schoolyards

Running alongside that work, the town joined forces with Heidelberg University of Education (Pädagogische Hochschule Heidelberg) to assess how movement-friendly two schoolyards in the Neckarelz district are. The scientific study examined the Auguste-Pattberg-Gymnasium and the Waldsteige primary school.

Using the standardised "KomBus 2.0" survey tool — short for Kommunale Bewegungsverhältnisse untersuchen, or assessing municipal movement conditions — the team recorded criteria including land use, foot and cycle infrastructure, quality of stay, traffic safety and the social environment.

Results were presented in September at a closing event. The Auguste-Pattberg-Gymnasium argued for keeping a football pitch that needs renovation, while the Waldsteige primary school favours a shoe-rack concept to allow year-round outdoor use.

According to the town, the audit does not trigger any immediate construction work, but the data collected is to feed into future planning over the medium and long term.
