Microsoft is pressing ahead with plans to deploy its in-house Azure Maia 300 processor in production from 2027, scaling capacity into the gigawatt range as the software and cloud giant looks to loosen its reliance on outside semiconductor suppliers for artificial intelligence workloads.

The chip roadmap forms part of a broader technology narrative that has analysts growing more bullish ahead of the company's fiscal first-quarter results for the 2027 business year, due after US markets close on October 28, 2026.

Wall Street Lifts Targets

Two brokerage houses moved in quick succession this week. TD Cowen raised its price target on the stock from $540 to $625 while keeping a Buy rating, and Barclays followed on Tuesday by maintaining its Overweight call and lifting its target from $512 to $600.

Investors will get a clearer read on the cloud division's financial health and operating momentum when the quarterly figures land on October 28.

The shares are trading close to their highs. Microsoft closed at EUR 481.05 on the previous session, leaving it just 2.3% below its 52-week peak of EUR 492.40, a level touched on Tuesday. In today's trading the stock stands at EUR 480.60, roughly 2.4% off that record. Whether the equity can clear that mark will likely hinge on the upcoming quarterly data and the outlook for the rest of the fiscal year.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Microsoft?

Management Sales and Vietnam Adjustments

Regulatory filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday offered a window into executive activity. Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood sold a total of 7,305 shares across three separate transactions. Such disposals by senior management tend to draw close scrutiny, though they frequently occur under pre-arranged trading plans in the run-up to regular quarterly reports.

Microsoft also confirmed personnel changes in Vietnam the same day, affecting individual positions. The company did not disclose how many employees or which specific functions were impacted.

At the same time, the group pushed back on media reports of purported cost-cutting plans in its cloud unit. A company spokesperson made clear that Azure leadership had not instructed teams to draw up savings programs.

Open Compute Project Security Push

Beyond silicon development, Microsoft is working on the underlying infrastructure for large data centers. Together with Marvell Technology and Oracle, the company has launched a working group under the Open Compute Project umbrella.

The initiative aims to establish an open specification for integrated hardware security modules, a response to the mounting security demands that accompany the spread of hyperscale infrastructure.

Management is simultaneously calling for clearer guardrails in technology development. Brad Smith, Microsoft's president, has urged binding global security rules and independent audits for new systems, pointing out that artificial intelligence currently faces fewer safety requirements than ordinary everyday products.

Visa Policy Draws Fire

Immigration policy has added a political dimension to the company's agenda. Roughly a week ago, the US government suspended the so-called PERM process for Microsoft and seven other technology firms.

Smith weighed in on the matter, warning — according to Reuters — that restricting foreign professionals' access to green cards could weaken the US technology industry for more than a generation and undermine the country's technological competitiveness.
