Micron's Friday Rebound Came From the Sector — Its Own Headlines Are Still Unresolved

Micron closed at €784.10 as memory stocks recovered; Wedbush reiterated Outperform and a $1,400 target, while a Taoyuan strike and Taichung labor deal remain in focus.

Micron Technology shares climbed 2.7% on Friday to close at €784.10, riding a broad recovery in memory-chip names after Thursday's technology selloff. But the bounce says more about the sector than about Micron itself. Investors returned to storage stocks on continued confidence in memory demand, and the wider mood was helped by SK Hynix halting a review of a Solidigm IPO — a decision that eased a specific overhang across the group.

What triggered Thursday's rout, though, had little to do with Micron. Media reports pointed to Tesla's lower 2026 investment target and a weaker-than-expected outlook from Lam Research as catalysts for the selling, both of which deepened doubts about AI spending. Micron was swept into a debate whose immediate causes sat outside the company, which makes Friday's gain a sector recovery rather than an all-clear.

A DRAM Fork in the Road, and a Price Target to Match

The one genuinely company-specific endorsement came from Wedbush, which reaffirmed its Outperform rating and a $1,400 price target. The reasoning rested on Micron's decision to pursue 3D DRAM instead of the 4F² architecture — a technological call the analyst house views favorably.

That is a different claim from a sector-wide rebound. A positive read on an architecture decision does not resolve how durable AI spending expectations really are, and the two should not be treated as interchangeable. Micron will be measured on its own roadmap; at the same time, Friday's move shows how sharply the stock can react to news from other companies entirely.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron Technology?

Two Taiwan Plants, Two Different Outcomes

The operational picture inside the company is no more uniform. Micron Memory Taiwan and the union in Taichung signed an agreement on Wednesday covering several labor-law issues, after which both sides withdrew from the mediation that had been scheduled for Thursday. The joint statement disclosed no details of the agreed terms.

Taoyuan followed a different path. A group of workers at that plant staged a one-day strike on Thursday, according to media reports, over bonus payments and profit-sharing. Talks there were pushed back to October 27 because of a typhoon. The upshot: alongside sector-level uncertainty, a concrete workplace dispute remains live — and the Taichung settlement cannot simply be read across to Taoyuan.

Pay, Pensions and a Materials Bet

The labor friction sits against a backdrop of broader compensation changes. Reuters reported that Micron will roll out quarterly employee payments worldwide starting in fiscal 2027, tied to company performance. In Taiwan, the company also raised employer pension contributions and added paid vacation days, Reuters said.

Micron Technology at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Separately, Micron on Tuesday announced strategic financing for Indium Corporation, aimed at expanding refining of critical minerals and the production of high-purity materials in Rome, New York. The arrangement includes a long-term supply agreement, according to the company, though Micron did not disclose the size of the investment.

Read together, Friday's tape shows the market marking Micron higher on a friendlier sector backdrop — not a wholesale reassessment of the company. The next hard test is the rescheduled Taoyuan talks, which bear directly on Micron in a way that other tech giants' investment signals do not.
