Micron Heads Into Wednesday's Print With Three Bullish Calls, a Munich Injunction, and a Taiwan Strike Vote

Micron Technology wrapped Monday's German session at EUR 927.70, down 2.3%, as traders trimmed memory-chip exposure on the eve of the company's fiscal fourth-quarter report. The pullback lands against a year-to-date advance of 268% — a run that has made the stock one of the most crowded AI-adjacent trades in semiconductors and left little room for disappointment when the numbers cross the wire on Wednesday.
Profit-taking rippled across the entire DRAM and NAND complex, not just Micron. Even so, the analyst community spent the same session pushing price targets higher rather than heading for the exits.
Baird, JPMorgan and Wedbush All Stay Constructive
Tristan Gerra of Baird raised his Micron target to $1,520 from $1,280 while keeping an Outperform rating, pointing to demand from AI agents, richer margins on high-bandwidth memory, and an expected slowdown in industry supply growth for DRAM in 2027.
JPMorgan's Harlan Sur reaffirmed an Overweight stance with a $1,540 target, the highest of the trio. Sur told clients he expects fiscal fourth-quarter revenue, gross margin and earnings per share to come in above Wall Street consensus, crediting tight supply in both DRAM and NAND.
Wedbush's Matt Bryson left his Outperform rating and $1,400 target untouched. Stifel's Brian Chin had already restated his buy recommendation on September 21 with a $1,500 target.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron Technology?
The targets cluster in a narrow band well above Monday's close, which means the market's near-term verdict will hinge less on ratings than on the margin trajectory and the outlook for the fiscal year now getting underway — both of which management will detail on Wednesday's analyst call.
Portfolio Shifts: GDDR7 Cuts, a 512GB Server Module
Behind the headline numbers, Micron has been reshaping its product mix. The company has halted production and distribution of certain 2GB GDDR7 graphics memory variants running at 28 Gbps and 32 Gbps, a move aimed at shifting capacity toward higher-density parts.
On the data-center side, Micron unveiled a 512-gigabyte DDR5 server module earlier this month capable of speeds up to 9,200 MT/s. AMD and Intel are currently validating the component. The same module cuts power consumption by more than 60% in operation, according to the company.
Micron also confirmed a personnel change: Deirdre Hanford took over as Corporate Vice President and head of Micron Research Labs on September 15.
Munich Court Blocks Sales in YMTC Dispute
Legal trouble is mounting on two fronts. On September 18, the Munich Regional Court I issued injunctions against Micron in its dispute with Chinese memory maker Yangtze Memory Technologies over two German utility models covering 3D NAND technology, affecting sales of certain products on the German market. Micron rejects the allegations and has filed an appeal.
Five days later, on September 23, the U.S. International Trade Commission opened a Section 337 investigation into alleged patent infringement in DRAM products. The probe stems from a complaint filed by Netlist against Micron Technology and Micron Semiconductor Products. The USITC stressed that launching the investigation does not constitute a preliminary ruling on the merits.
Taiwan Union Sets October Strike Ballot
Labor relations at Micron's Taiwan operations are also fraying. The local union in Taoyuan has called a strike vote for early October after conciliation talks over employee bonuses collapsed. The union is demanding a fixed allocation equal to 15% of operating profit.
None of these items changes the central question facing investors: whether Micron can convert tight DRAM and NAND supply into the margin expansion that Baird, JPMorgan, Wedbush and Stifel are all pricing in. Wednesday's report — and the guidance that follows it — will settle that debate for now.
