Mercedes-Benz Stock Hits 52-Week Low as Paris Premieres Loom

Mercedes-Benz shares are searching for a floor after a bruising stretch that has erased a third of their value since the start of the year. The stock touched a fresh 52-week low of EUR 39.41 in early Monday trading before recovering to close at EUR 40.31. By the following session it had edged 1.0 percent higher to EUR 40.30.
The Stuttgart automaker now finds itself squeezed between a deteriorating industry backdrop and a packed calendar of product and financial events that could shape sentiment into the autumn.
Industry Sentiment Takes a Sharp Turn
The headwinds buffeting the entire sector are intensifying. The ifo Institute reported a marked setback in its business climate index for the German automotive industry for September, with the gauge tumbling to minus 35.0 points from minus 22.0 a month earlier.
Analysts are recalibrating accordingly. Citi trimmed its price target on Mercedes-Benz to EUR 42 from EUR 51, keeping its rating at "Hold." Deutsche Bank Research, by contrast, maintained its "Buy" recommendation on September 29, though it too lowered its target, cutting it to EUR 70 from EUR 73. Market observers, despite the recent share price declines, are not uniformly pessimistic about the company's fundamental position.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Mercedes-Benz?
Product Offensive Takes Center Stage in Paris
Operational momentum is expected to come from the Paris Motor Show, running October 12 to 18, where Mercedes-Benz will unveil several new models. The company's press conference is scheduled for October 12 at 14:45 CEST. Headlining the display are the next generations of the GLA and GLE SUVs, alongside the electric VLE and the sporty Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. Mercedes-AMG has also announced premieres for the CLA 45. The lineup spans high-volume core series, battery-electric offerings and the upper luxury segment.
Cost Pressures and a Shifting Shareholder Base
The premieres land amid palpable internal tension. At a works meeting on September 28, the management board reiterated demands for concessions from the workforce, according to tagesschau, with longer working hours and possible plant closures on the table.
The shareholder register has also seen movement. A filing dated September 25 showed BlackRock holding 5.87 percent of voting rights, or 6.04 percent when instrument positions are included.
Buyback and Upcoming Financial Dates
Alongside the model offensive, Mercedes-Benz is leaning on corporate measures to steady its footing. Under a share buyback program launched more than a month ago, the company most recently repurchased 875,000 of its own shares. The mandate permits the repurchase of up to 58 million shares for a maximum of EUR 1 billion.
Investors will get their next hard data points in quick succession. A pre-close call on the third quarter is set for October 8, followed on October 28 by the full interim report for Q3 2026 and an analyst conference. The coming weeks will test how quickly the new model lines and cost discipline gain traction in a fiercely competitive market.
