Medtronic Pads Pipeline With Sinus Tool Clearance and 24-Month Vein Data as MiniMed Swap Ratio Lands at Cap

Medtronic is stacking fresh regulatory wins and clinical readouts on top of a busy stretch of corporate restructuring, giving investors a fuller picture of where the medical device maker's growth is coming from.
The company said Wednesday it secured 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its ApexCut EM navigated blades, a tool built for sinus surgery that pairs with the Stealth AXiS ENT navigation platform. Management expects the first U.S. clinical cases to begin after a planned software update later in 2026. The green light deepens Medtronic's offering in ear, nose and throat procedures, a field where precise imaging and navigation are central to complex operations.
That clearance arrived a day after the company released exploratory 24-month data from the TITAN-2 study, which tracks the Altaviva system and offers a longer view of how the therapy holds up over time. Medtronic also named a national principal investigator for the upcoming ENDURANCE trial, setting the stage for continued clinical work on the device.
Vein Program Data and a Spinoff Milestone
Separately, the company published worldwide prospective data from its Spectrum program on Oct. 3, covering the VenaSeal closure system and treatment outcomes in patients with advanced chronic venous disease.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Medtronic?
Those clinical disclosures landed alongside a key step in the planned separation of the MiniMed Group. Medtronic set the final exchange ratio for the carve-out: holders who tender each share of Medtronic common stock will receive 4.5939 shares of MiniMed Group, a level that hits the previously defined upper bound of the offer. The subscription period for the exchange offer has now expired as scheduled.
Regulatory housekeeping also surfaced for the diabetes unit. An FDA entry published Oct. 5 flagged a correction process for MiniMed Flex insulin pumps, covering 20 devices in the field where testing was missing or failed — a gap that can create risks around insulin delivery.
R&D Spending and a Citi Endorsement
The product momentum fits against a broader investment backdrop. Medtronic's Impact Report for fiscal 2026, released Tuesday, showed the company put $2.9 billion into research and development. Over the course of the year it notched more than 315 product approvals in key markets and, by its own count, treated over 82 million patients worldwide.
Medtronic at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Analysts remain constructive. Citi's Joanne Wuensch reiterated a "Buy" rating on Monday with a $110 price target. The stock finished Friday at EUR 79.00, a modest 1.0% gain on the day, putting Medtronic's market value at EUR 100.18 billion. Attention had also turned to the shares about a week earlier, when new billing codes for spinal cord and kidney treatments drew notice from market participants.
For investors, the coming quarters hinge on how effectively Medtronic converts its expanding clinical dossier into deeper market penetration.
