Marvell Technology used its investor day in New York City on Tuesday to lay out a multiyear road map for its artificial-intelligence infrastructure business, with Chief Executive Matt Murphy and senior executives walking attendees through the company's strategy and growth pipeline. The timing matters: after a run that has lifted the stock 232% since the start of the year, shareholders are hunting for hard evidence that data-center demand can carry the valuation further.

The market's initial response was measured. Ahead of the opening bell, the shares changed hands at EUR 242.25, up 0.3%, before the session brought a sharper move — the stock closed the day 8.5% higher at EUR 262.15. That still leaves the equity 9.7% below its 52-week high of EUR 290.35, a record level now within striking distance.

A business remade around the data center

The scale of Marvell's pivot is easy to understate. When the repositioning began in 2017, data centers accounted for less than a tenth of group revenue. Today they sit at the core of the company's identity. In the second quarter of fiscal 2027, Marvell booked USD 2.7 billion in revenue, a 37% year-over-year increase.

Custom silicon — bespoke chips designed for individual hyperscale customers — is the engine of that transformation. The segment generated roughly USD 1.5 billion in fiscal 2026, equal to just under 18% of total sales. Management expects growth of more than 20% in fiscal 2027, followed by a planned doubling of revenue in fiscal 2028.

The Google warrant: potential, not backlog

The headline-grabbing piece of the day was an agreement with Google covering warrants on as many as 58.97 million shares at USD 206.58 apiece. The structure is tightly performance-linked: 240 tranches unlock in stages, each tied to USD 500 million in qualifying chip orders. If every purchase target is met by fiscal 2033, the arrangement could translate into cumulative revenue of about USD 120 billion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Marvell Technology?

That figure deserves precise framing. It represents the theoretical ceiling of a framework agreement, not a guaranteed order book — a distinction that matters given the contract carries no fixed commitment.

Where the bull case gets its numbers

Under the optimistic scenario, Marvell converts its data-center networking position into sustained top-line expansion. Management is targeting roughly USD 12 billion in total revenue for fiscal 2027, rising to about USD 18 billion in fiscal 2028. Data-center revenue alone is projected to grow more than 60% in fiscal 2028. The company also signaled that its prior goal of more than USD 10 billion in custom-chip revenue for fiscal 2029 now carries meaningful upside.

On profitability, Marvell is aiming for a non-GAAP operating margin of 38% to 40%, a level it intends to reach in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2027 and to approach the upper end of in the following year. Citi sees room beyond that band: should margins improve by 100 to 200 basis points above the range, earnings of USD 15 to USD 20 per share by 2030 are conceivable. Rosenblatt rates the stock a Buy with a USD 300 target, anchored in expected profit growth through fiscal 2029. Citi's Atif Malik had already reaffirmed his Buy rating and USD 275 target on September 29, pointing to the investor day as a source of fresh insight into AI data-center network architecture.

Executives also stressed the growing importance of optical interconnects and shared memory architectures, technologies positioned to address the architectural strains of AI data centers and the mounting cache demands of modern models.

The risks that could reset the growth premium

Set against the ambitious targets are concrete operational and market hazards. Gross margin is under close scrutiny: the fiscal 2028 goal stands at 57.5% to 58.5%, after the most recent guidance already landed about 90 basis points below the prior quarter. If custom silicon solutions grow faster than higher-margin standard components, the mix could pressure profitability.

Execution risk with large customers compounds the issue. A substantial share of future growth rests on a handful of technology giants making heavy investments in their own chip architectures. Delayed projects or shifts in procurement strategy at those buyers could put the revenue markers out of reach. And because the Google framework is not a firm order, capturing the full USD 120 billion depends on conditions Marvell does not control alone.

Marvell Technology at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

What to watch from here

The stock's path hinges on operational delivery. So long as Marvell can stand behind the USD 18 billion fiscal 2028 revenue figure and steer operating margin toward 40%, the upside case holds. A gross margin slipping below the 57.5% floor, or signs of delay in custom-chip tranche drawdowns, would invite a re-rating of the growth premium.

Meanwhile, the company confirmed a quarterly dividend of USD 0.06 per share, payable October 29, 2026 to holders of record as of October 9, 2026. On the management side, President and Chief Operating Officer Chris Koopmans sold 10,000 shares on October 1 at a weighted average price of USD 262.05, a transaction executed under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan established on June 16, 2026.

The next concrete checkpoint is the detailed overhaul of the long-term financial model promised by the finance chief, which should clarify the final metrics for the back half of the decade.
