UN expert to conduct first official visit to Mali

GENEVA, 13 December 2024 / PRN Africa / -- The Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Mali, Eduardo Gonzalez Cueva, will conduct an official visit to Mali from 16 to 20 December 2024.

This will be the first visit by the expert since he was appointed in May 2024.

This visit will allow him to continue the overall assessment of the human rights situation in the country and support the Malian transitional authorities in their efforts to promote and protect human rights.

During his visit to Bamako, Gonzalez will meet with Malian authorities, civil society representatives, non-governmental organisations, victims of human rights violations and abuses, including survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, as well as diplomats and UN agencies.

Gonzalez will present his annual report to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2025.
