Lenzing Wraps Up Amsterdam Denim Showcase as Board Members Commit to €300 Million Rights Issue
Published on 10/15/2026 at 21:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo board members of Lenzing exercised their subscription rights on Monday, a move disclosed to the market a day later, while the Austrian fiber maker was simultaneously closing out its denim presentation at Kingpins Amsterdam. Georg Kasperkovitz and Christian Skilich both took up their entitlements, signaling personal participation in a capital measure that remains open to existing shareholders until October 20, 2026.
The timing matters less than what the gesture does and does not prove. Insider participation in a rights issue is a statement of commitment to the strategic overhaul — not evidence that the overhaul is delivering. Shareholders weighing whether to follow suit still face the same unresolved question: can Lenzing convert a more favorable fiber pricing environment into actual earnings?
A €300 Million Raise With a 10:9 Ratio
The fully guaranteed cash capital increase, announced roughly two weeks ago, targets gross proceeds of about EUR 300 million. Subscribers pay EUR 8.65 per share under a 10-to-9 subscription ratio, with 34,756,362 new shares set to be issued. The proceeds are earmarked for strengthening the balance sheet and supporting the "Grow Nonwovens, Reset Textiles" strategy.
Major shareholders have already committed. B&C-Gruppe, Suzano and Oberbank all pledged to exercise their rights — a backstop that, combined with the full guarantee, gives the financing a solid foundation. The subscription period runs through October 20, 2026. An international private placement of unsubscribed shares is scheduled for the same day, with settlement, delivery and the start of trading in the new shares expected on October 23, 2026, subject to registration of the capital increase in the commercial register.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Lenzing?
The Textile Side: Nearly 50 Weavers Across 13 Countries
Parallel to the financing, Lenzing has been building out the operational side of its textile business. The company unveiled its "REMOD" collection with Kaihara Corporation on October 5 and announced a third generation of partner weaving mills. By its own count, that network now spans close to 50 mills in 13 countries.
The Kingpins Amsterdam appearance, which concluded with the close of the trade fair, paired the denim launch with the expansion of the TENCEL™ Lyocell-HV100 partner network. These are tangible product and partnership initiatives — concrete steps on the market side that fit the announced repositioning toward premium applications and customer partnerships. What they do not yet constitute is a contribution to earnings.
Berenberg's Downgrade Points Elsewhere
The more pointed challenge to the bull case came on October 2, when Sebastian Bray of Berenberg cut his rating from "Buy" to "Hold" and slashed his price target to EUR 17.00 from EUR 29.50. His reasoning went beyond the financing: rising cotton and viscose prices had not flowed through to results as expected. Bray also flagged questions about Suzano's commitment and rising interest rates as arguments against a buy recommendation.
That distinction — between a repaired capital structure and improved operating performance — sits at the heart of how investors should read the coming weeks. A strengthened balance sheet changes the financial starting point. Whether it produces a more durable earnings trajectory will only become clear in subsequent disclosures. The scale of the measure also matters for existing holders: with 34,756,362 new shares entering the register, investors must judge whether anticipated progress can economically justify a substantially enlarged share count.
What the October Dates Will and Won't Settle
If the financing proceeds as planned, a key pillar of the restructuring stays in place. Should business figures simultaneously show better pass-through of the pricing environment into results, the positive thesis gains support. If that improvement fails to materialize, the risk grows that the fresh capital primarily reinforces the balance sheet while the earnings problem persists.
The next concrete milestones are mechanical: the October 20 subscription deadline, the private placement of unsubscribed shares the same day, and the expected October 23 settlement and trading debut, contingent on commercial register entry. After that, the operational test takes center stage — and it is likely to carry more weight for investment decisions than the subscription choices of individual board members. The decisive question remains whether Lenzing can demonstrate measurable progress in earnings.
