Lenzing has reaffirmed its pledge to strip out an additional EUR 120 million in costs by the end of 2027, measured against a 2025 baseline, as the Austrian fibre maker tries to convert a steady underlying performance into a genuine recovery. The savings programme, confirmed on the day the company reported nine-month figures, is the pivot on which the whole turnaround case now rests.

Investors greeted the update by pushing the shares up 3.8%, a vote of confidence in a margin that edged higher even as revenue slipped.

Margins improve while sales shrink

For the first nine months of 2026, Lenzing posted revenue of EUR 1,926.3 million, down from EUR 1,972.0 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA came in at EUR 353.0 million against EUR 352.7 million — essentially flat, and enough to lift the adjusted EBITDA margin to 18.3% from 17.9%.

The gap between the adjusted and reported figures tells the more complicated story. Restructuring charges of EUR 36.6 million dragged unadjusted EBITDA down to EUR 316.4 million. Non-cash impairments of EUR 136.1 million tied to the Heiligenkreuz and Grimsby sites added further weight, leaving a net loss of EUR 130.3 million, wider than the EUR 105 million shortfall booked a year earlier.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Lenzing?

Management stressed that the business stabilised in recent months, and the full-year outlook is framed explicitly around the adjusted metric: EUR 430 million to EUR 460 million in adjusted EBITDA for 2026.

A leaner footprint, a narrower product focus

The savings drive runs alongside a deeper reshaping of the industrial base. Roughly 600 jobs will go. Production at Heiligenkreuz is scheduled to stop by the end of the first quarter of 2027, with Grimsby following by the end of that year.

Beyond the cuts, Lenzing intends to expand its nonwovens business and shift textile fibres toward premium and specialty grades, retreating from lower-margin standard fibres to strengthen earning power. That repositioning carries a near-term cost, which is precisely why the adjusted figures matter: they show the operating trend stripped of restructuring effects, while the reported numbers reveal what the overhaul is costing on the balance sheet.

Looking further out, the company is targeting an EBITDA improvement of EUR 150 million, an EBITDA margin of 20–25% and a leverage ratio below 2.5. Those are ambitions, not achievements — the test is how the measures feed through to day-to-day operations and cash generation.

Capital raise reshapes the register

Financing has become a second front. The capital increase that took effect about two weeks ago raised roughly EUR 300 million. Lenzing plans further financing arrangements of around EUR 300 million, about half of which is already firmly agreed — a distinction worth keeping in mind between signed commitments and intentions not yet binding.

Lenzing at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The share issuance also redrew the ownership map. As of 29 October, the B&C Group and Suzano consortium held about 52.25% of voting rights, while Goldman Sachs Group was reported at 5.86%. Total voting rights rose to 73,374,542, with share capital of EUR 76,204,702.90.

At the close of the reporting period, net financial debt stood at EUR 1,418.9 million. Free cash flow reached EUR 24.7 million, a sharp retreat from EUR 110.9 million a year earlier.

That cash-flow gap is the number to watch. Higher adjusted margins alone will not settle the argument — Lenzing has to deliver the EUR 120 million in savings and turn operational stability into stronger free cash generation before the balance sheet relief carries real weight.
