Kioxia Wins S&P Upgrade to BBB as Liquid-Cooled SSDs Target AI Data Centers
Published on 10/18/2026 at 13:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deKioxia's German-listed shares closed Friday at EUR 71.50, down 7.7%, as a broad selloff in Asian technology stocks hit memory chipmakers harder than most. Investors were rattled by questions over how AI infrastructure projects will be financed, alongside lingering interest-rate worries. Sentiment across the memory sector took a further knock on Tuesday when reports surfaced of progress at Chinese rival ChangXin Memory Technologies.
The retreat came despite a run of constructive announcements from the Japanese group.
S&P Lifts Rating a Notch
S&P Global Ratings raised Kioxia Holdings Corporation's long-term issuer credit rating to BBB from BBB- on Tuesday and assigned a positive outlook. The agency pointed to sustained demand for flash memory and SSDs, together with the company's net cash position, as the basis for the move.
For a capital-intensive chipmaker, that notch matters. Stronger ratings can lower the cost of future borrowing and refinancing — meaningful headroom in a sector defined by cyclical demand swings and relentless spending on fabrication capacity.

Cooling Tech for the AI Buildout
On the product side, Kioxia Corporation unveiled direct liquid-cooled versions of its CM9 enterprise SSD line on Tuesday. The drives support cold-plate architectures in servers and are being shipped as samples to selected customers for evaluation. KIOXIA America had announced the liquid-cooled CM9 models on October 12, offering capacities of up to 30.72 terabytes.
The company had previously introduced its LD4 series for hyperscalers, an architecture that supports storage volumes of up to 122.88 terabytes.
Liquid cooling addresses a mounting problem in modern data centers: high-performance processors running complex workloads are pushing traditional air-cooling systems to their limits, driving operators toward fluid-based alternatives.
Earnings on the Horizon
With the recent market turbulence in the background, attention now shifts to Kioxia's upcoming results. The company will report second-quarter figures for fiscal 2026 on October 30 at 18:45 Japan Standard Time.
