Kioxia shares fell 7.7% on Friday, closing at EUR 71.50, as a broad retreat in memory-chip and AI-related equities dragged the Japanese semiconductor maker lower alongside its peers. The stock has now pulled back sharply from its 52-week high of EUR 207.00, a level reached during months of AI-driven euphoria that have since given way to a more cautious mood across the sector.

At the root of the latest bout of nerves: reports that China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has made technological headway on a new DRAM cell architecture. The news, which surfaced on Tuesday, weighed on sentiment across the entire memory space, with Kioxia caught in the downdraft as both a supplier and a memory manufacturer. Investors were already jittery about how AI infrastructure projects will be financed and about interest-rate concerns, and those broader worries hit Asian technology and memory-chip names hard.

Product Push Targets Data Centers

Even as the share price has struggled, Kioxia's management has kept its foot on the pedal in the data-center arena. KIOXIA America unveiled liquid-cooled variants of its CM9 enterprise SSD line on October 12, offering capacities of up to 30.72 terabytes, with samples now shipping to selected customers. That launch followed the company's introduction of the LD4 series for hyperscalers, an architecture designed to support storage volumes of up to 122.88 terabytes. Earlier, on October 9, Kioxia had also announced development of an E1.L QLC-based SSD aimed at hyperscale infrastructure.

S&P Lifts Rating to BBB

On the financial side, the company picked up a vote of confidence from S&P Global Ratings, which on Tuesday upgraded Kioxia's long-term issuer credit rating to "BBB" with a positive outlook. The agency pointed to a solid net-cash position and sustained robust demand for AI-related flash memory and SSD solutions as the rationale for the move.

Whether that demand is translating into results will become clearer at the end of the month. Kioxia Holdings has scheduled the release of its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2026 for October 30 at 18:45 Japan Standard Time, giving investors their first hard look at how the business is faring in the current semiconductor cycle.
