JinkoSolar's Rebranding Push Lands in the Middle of a Brutal Year for Solar

A corporate name change is rarely the headline a solar manufacturer wants when its stock has just lost three-fifths of its value. Yet that is precisely the position JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd. finds itself in, as management proposes rebranding the company to "Jinko Holdings Limited" alongside a dual Chinese-language name — a move shareholders will vote on at the annual general meeting scheduled for October 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Beijing time. Investors of record as of the close of trading on September 21, 2026, New York time, are eligible to cast ballots.
The proposal arrives during a period of considerable upheaval at the top of the organization. Roughly a month ago, CEO Xiande Li stepped down from his post, with Wei "Dimi" Du stepping in as chairman. While a leadership handover can signal resolve, it tends to sharpen near-term uncertainty when a concrete strategic reset has yet to materialize. Adding a second foreign corporate designation on top of that transition reads more like administrative housekeeping than a genuine breakout move — paperwork does not generate value for the core business when the market is clamoring for operational signals.
The Numbers Behind the Selloff
The market's reluctance is impossible to miss in the share price. On Friday, the stock closed at EUR 9.12, extending a downtrend that has now wiped out 60 percent since the start of the year. During the past trading week alone, media reports indicate the paper shed 13.8 percent of its value, and it now trades at just 0.24 times book value.
The second quarter of 2026 is the primary culprit. JinkoSolar posted quarterly revenue of USD 1.82 billion, well short of the USD 2.17 billion analysts had penciled in. Earnings per share came in at a loss of USD 2.53, a far deeper shortfall than the consensus estimate of a USD 0.75 loss. Profitability bore the brunt of pricing pressure: the gross margin was nearly halved, sliding from 8.3 percent in the first quarter to 4.2 percent in the second. Management attributed the compression to lower average selling prices for solar modules and higher costs tied to producing higher-efficiency products.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying JinkoSolar?
Module shipments also contracted sharply, falling 34.4 percent year over year to 15,961 megawatts in the second quarter. Against that backdrop, the company trimmed its full-year 2026 guidance and now expects module deliveries of between 60.0 and 70.0 gigawatts.
Analysts Head for the Exits
The disappointing figures left their mark on the analyst community. On September 5, Zacks Research downgraded the stock from "Hold" to "Strong Sell." Roughly three weeks earlier, Roth Capital had cut its price target from USD 25.00 to USD 16.00 while assigning a "Neutral" rating, and Freedom Broker simultaneously pulled its recommendation back from "Strong Buy" to "Hold." Media reports noted further downgrades by market watchers in early September, suggesting confidence in a swift stabilization has evaporated for now.
A Stake Sale and a Balance Sheet Cushion
Not everything on the corporate side has been defensive. To shore up liquidity, JinkoSolar divested a significant stake in LAPLACE Renewable Energy Technology Co., Ltd. during the first half of 2026. The transaction generated cash proceeds of more than RMB 300 million and produced a cumulative realized gain exceeding RMB 250 million.
Even so, worries about sustained margin pressure across the global solar market continue to dominate sentiment on the exchange. When shareholders convene on October 21, 2026, management will need to deliver tangible answers on how it intends to defend margins and competitiveness over the long haul. Without operational progress, the new identity risks amounting to little more than a shell — and for investors, the current picture points to a grueling transition period in which caution remains the wiser course.
