IREN's Two-Speed Reality: A $30 Billion Vision Clashing With a Missed Quarter

There is a peculiar tension building around IREN that has nothing to do with whether the company is executing on its strategy — by most measures, it is. The former Bitcoin miner has handed over its Horizon-1 data center to Microsoft, secured NVIDIA's Exemplar Cloud status on the GB300-NVL72 platform, and signed yet another multi-year contract with a leading frontier AI lab. The order book tells a story of a company that has essentially sold out its 2026 capacity, with CEO Daniel Roberts describing it as "largely sold out."
The stock tells a different story entirely. Since the Microsoft handover last Thursday, shares have shed roughly 11.5 percent. The acquisition of software maker Mirantis, announced just over a week ago to bolster cloud operations, cost the stock another 9.7 percent. And when the fiscal fourth-quarter numbers finally landed, the market's response was swift and unforgiving.
The Quarter That Didn't Measure Up
Revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 came in at $137.2 million, a clear miss against the consensus estimate of $157.14 million. The adjusted loss per share of $0.41 also came in wider than the $0.34 analysts had penciled in. By Friday's close, the stock had fallen to €30.80, with the after-hours session adding further pressure.
The full-year picture offers some context for the transition underway. Total revenue climbed to $707.0 million from $501.0 million in the prior year. More tellingly, AI cloud services revenue of $70.5 million in the quarter surpassed Bitcoin mining revenue of $66.7 million for the first time — a symbolic milestone in the company's reinvention. But the cost of that transformation is visible in the numbers: a net loss of $702.6 million for the year, driven largely by a non-cash impairment of $450.4 million on retired Bitcoin mining hardware.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IREN?
A Capital Appetite to Match the Ambition
The scale of IREN's pivot became clearer with the announcement of a capital expenditure plan of $25 billion to $30 billion for fiscal 2027 — a figure that would strain even the most established data center operators. To put that in perspective, the stock now trades 55 percent below its 52-week high of $68.61, which it reached in early November.
The financing machinery is already turning. Blue Owl Capital Management is leading a $2.4 billion debt package for IREN, split evenly between $1.2 billion in secured term loans and $1.2 billion in secured notes. The proceeds are earmarked for NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs destined for the Mackenzie site in British Columbia.
Against this backdrop, the company's contracted annualized recurring revenue (ARR) for 2026 capacity stands at $4 billion, with $1 billion already operational as of August 26. IREN has also raised its 2026 annualized recurring revenue target to over $4 billion and secured roughly $2.8 billion in multi-year AI cloud contracts. The gap between these forward-looking figures and the quarterly reality is the crux of the market's skepticism.
Analysts Hold the Line
Despite the sell-off, several research houses reaffirmed their bullish stances on Friday. Cantor Fitzgerald maintained an "Overweight" rating with a $99.00 price target, while H.C. Wainwright kept a Buy rating and a $90.00 target. BTIG Research and Canaccord Genuity also reiterated Buy recommendations with targets of $80.00 and $79.00, respectively.
The divergence between the tape and the analyst community underscores the uncertainty surrounding IREN. The technical picture does little to calm nerves: the RSI sits at 40.2, annualized volatility is a staggering 125 percent, and the stock trades well below its 200-day moving average of €39.61.
The financing round announced today — with the stock hovering near €30.82, essentially flat on the day — captures the moment. IREN is a company caught between structural tailwinds and short-term disappointment, between a contract book that keeps growing and a market that wants to see the present catch up with the promise. The vision is increasingly clear; the quarterly receipts are not yet there to match it.
