IREN's $30 Billion Bet: Wall Street Sees Value Where the Market Sees Risk

The gap between what IREN's order book promises and what its share price delivers has rarely been wider. On Friday, the stock closed at €30.80, down 12 percent on the day and 14 percent lower on the week — even as two Wall Street firms reaffirmed bullish price targets that sit roughly two to three times above the current trading level.
H.C. Wainwright & Co. reiterated its buy rating with a $90 price target, while Citizens JMP stood by its "Market Outperform" call at $80. Both firms point to the same catalyst: the accelerating momentum in IREN's AI cloud business, which has quietly transformed the company's revenue mix.
That transformation reached a symbolic milestone in the latest quarter. AI cloud revenue accounted for 51.4 percent of total sales, surpassing the legacy Bitcoin mining operation for the first time. The segment generated $70.5 million in the June quarter out of total revenue of $137.2 million — still modest in absolute terms, but growing against the backdrop of a contracted annualized revenue base that has swelled to approximately $4 billion.
A Backlog Built on Big Names
The order book's expansion has been dramatic. IREN now reports contracted annualized capacity of $4 billion for 2026, up from the $3.4 billion figure disclosed in July. That increase stems from a new multi-year agreement with an unnamed leading AI lab, additional customer wins, and contract extensions from existing partners.
The company had already announced $2.8 billion in new customer contracts in late July, lifting its year-end target for annualized AI cloud revenue from $3.7 billion to over $4 billion. At that point, roughly 85 percent of the goal was already under contract. Of the current $4 billion in contracted capacity, about $1 billion is already operational.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IREN?
The customer roster adds credibility to the numbers. Microsoft has accepted the first 50-megawatt delivery at IREN's Horizon 1 site in Childress, Texas — the opening tranche of four planned direct-to-chip liquid cooling deployments for the software giant. Separately, media reports indicate NVIDIA has designated IREN as an "Exemplar Cloud" for its GB300-NVL72 platform, a status that signals technical alignment with the industry's leading AI hardware.
The Financing Question Looms Large
The market's skepticism, however, is not about demand — it's about the bill. IREN has guided to capital expenditures of $25 billion to $30 billion for fiscal 2027, a staggering figure for a company that just posted a net loss of $702.6 million on revenue of $707.0 million for the past fiscal year.
The company held roughly $7.6 billion in cash as of June 30, including $1.7 billion in restricted liquidity — a substantial war chest, but one that covers only a fraction of the planned investment. Management says advanced discussions are already underway for buildouts in 2027 and 2028, with the 2026 capacity largely sold out.
The technical picture reflects the market's unease. The stock trades about 14 percent below its 50-day moving average of €35.94 and roughly 22 percent beneath its 200-day average, underscoring a medium-term downtrend. Annualized 30-day volatility stands at 125 percent — a measure of just how skittish trading has become.
A 55 Percent Gap From the Peak
The distance from the stock's November high of €68.61 is now 55 percent, a decline that has occurred even as the company's contracted revenue base has grown. That divergence between operational progress and share price performance is the crux of the current debate.
For the two bullish analysts, the answer is clear: the contracted revenue cushion justifies the investment cycle, and the AI cloud transition is working. For the market, the question is whether IREN's breakneck expansion pace is running ahead of actual demand growth — and whether the financing math ultimately adds up.
The numbers will keep coming. The company expects its annualized AI cloud revenue run rate to surpass $4 billion by December 2026. Whether the share price catches up to that trajectory — or the trajectory catches down to the share price — remains the open question for investors weighing a stock that has become a referendum on the economics of AI infrastructure at scale.
