IREN shares finished Friday's session 2.5% higher at EUR 37.10, lifted by a broad rebound across technology names and operators of artificial-intelligence infrastructure rather than by any news of its own. No company-specific announcement accompanied the move, leaving the stock trading on the mood of its peer group.

That mood had a concrete catalyst. Applied Digital's Polaris Forge 1 campus reached an operating capacity of 250 MW, a milestone that media reports credit with rekindling buying interest in companies that build specialized data-center infrastructure. IREN tagged along without publishing fresh operational figures of its own.

The advance leaves the shares 2.9% above their 50-day moving average, a level the stock has managed to hold in the short term.

A 13G Filing, Not a Fresh Bet

Separate from the sector's swing, corporate-registry developments surfaced during the week. On Wednesday, Citadel Securities, affiliated entities and Kenneth Griffin filed a mandatory Schedule 13G notice with the U.S. securities regulator, disclosing economic ownership of 18,687,938 IREN common shares — a 4.7% stake as of the start of trading on September 30.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IREN?

The disclosure is a regulatory obligation tied to the size of the holding, not a signal about the company's direction. Even so, a position of that scale from a prominent investor tends to lend the stock a measure of stability and offers a counterweight to the usual volatility of the technology sector.

Buyback Framework, Not a Buyback

On the legal front, IREN approached the SEC earlier, requesting a no-action letter on September 23 to be excused from filing preliminary proxy materials for certain shareholder meetings. The request concerned votes on resolutions covering selective share repurchases. The company explicitly did not announce a standalone buyback program with that step — the measure only concerns the formal framework for future votes.

B. Riley Trims Its Target, Keeps Its Rating

Analysts, meanwhile, are striking a more measured tone. B. Riley adjusted its price target on September 29, cutting it from $96 to $91 while keeping its "Buy" rating intact. The firm pointed to sector-wide pressures: regulatory uncertainty, higher yields and, above all, slower leasing activity weighing on the environment for digital mining and high-performance computing.

The reduced target still implies considerable upside from current levels, but it also acknowledges that even sympathetic analysts cannot ignore the heavy capital costs and execution risks of building out infrastructure.

What the Stock Is Really Trading On

For investors, the utilization of IREN's capacity remains the decisive valuation factor. The combination of a supportive sector backdrop, a well-known large shareholder and continued analyst backing props up sentiment — yet the shares stay tightly bound to actual capacity expansion. The recent upward move is encouragement, not proof. Whether IREN converts external tailwinds into durable, profitable growth of its own, or merely drifts in its competitors' wake, will be settled by operational execution in the months ahead.
