IREN's 11% Pop Is a Bet on November 5, Not a Verdict
Published on 11/04/2026 at 03:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deIREN shares climbed 11% yesterday, and the move had nothing to do with a fresh company announcement. Media reports chalked it up to investors taking positions ahead of the upcoming quarterly release — a rally built on anticipation rather than on delivered results. That distinction matters, because the stock has now front-loaded expectations that the numbers themselves will have to justify.
The report in question lands on November 5, after the market closes, covering the first quarter of fiscal 2027. That quarter wrapped up on September 30, 2026, and management has scheduled a conference call for 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The figures and the commentary belong together: the first describes what the business actually did, the second helps frame where it intends to go. Neither should be mistaken for the other.
What the Consensus Is Bracing For
Analysts are not expecting a clean quarter. A published consensus estimate puts revenue at $229.81 million, with a loss of $0.73 per share — a sharp reversal from the $1.06 per share profit IREN posted in the same period a year earlier.
The prior quarter offers a useful reference point for that gap. IREN booked a net loss of $684 million, a figure that included $450.4 million in non-cash write-downs, predominantly tied to mining hardware. Those charges don't make the loss meaningless, but they do change how it should be read against cash-based expenses. Investors will want to separate the accounting drag from the operational trajectory when the new numbers land.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IREN?
The Contracted Backlog Is the Real Scorecard
Back in July, IREN said roughly 85% of its target of more than $4 billion in annualized AI cloud revenue by the end of 2026 was already under contract. That annualized run-rate will be one of the most closely watched items in the November 5 update.
Contracted revenue, however, is not the same as revenue booked in a given quarter. The report gives investors a chance to judge both the contractual cushion and the pace of actual execution side by side — and to see how far the company has moved in converting signed agreements into live business.
Wall Street, for its part, has trimmed its targets without abandoning the thesis. B. Riley cut its price target to $64 from $91 while keeping a Buy rating, a combination that captures the tension: long-term potential still recognized, valuation handled with more caution.
Options Traders Are Pricing a Big Move
Derivatives markets are bracing for a violent reaction. Options pricing implies a swing of ±17.03% around the release, well above the 8.31% average absolute move IREN has posted over the past eight quarters. That is not a directional call — it is a measure of how much uncertainty is packed into the event. Yesterday's rebound does nothing to reduce that uncertainty.
Europe Is the Long Game, Not the Quarter
Beyond the near-term print, IREN has laid out a much longer runway. Roughly two weeks ago it announced the formation of IREN Europe and secured approval for construction work on a planned data center campus in Badajoz, Spain. The site is designed for approximately 300 megawatts, with first operations targeted for 2028.
IREN at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
That timeline sits in an entirely different frame from the November 5 report. The campus represents future build-out, not operating capacity already achieved — and it would be premature to treat planned megawatts as finished business. The European push comes with its own organizational scaffolding as well: Roberto Purcaro has been named Executive Director for Europe, and Ángel Corcóstegui is set to chair the European supervisory board.
The Question the Market Is Actually Asking
So what is the stock buying here — the next quarter, or the prospect of future AI capacity?
The honest answer is that yesterday's gain was explained by expectations for the earnings report, with the European expansion providing long-term backdrop rather than a substitute for results. On November 5, the task for investors is to keep the two cleanly separated. The most revealing part of the update will be how management connects the quarter just closed to the build-out still ahead. The share price has already staked out its expectations; the announced figures are the next hard reference point.
