IperionX is pressing ahead with its push to build a domestic titanium supply chain for the US military, even as its equity continues to lose ground on the Frankfurt and US markets. The company confirmed on 31 August that the US Army had placed a second Task Order under an existing agreement, a deal carrying a potential total value of up to USD 25.4 million, of which USD 11.5 million is already firmly committed.

The contract is aimed at scaling up American capacity to produce titanium powder and finished components, reinforcing IperionX's strategic position within the domestic defence industrial base. Management has framed the work around the large-scale manufacture of high-grade titanium powder for both industrial and military end-uses, with supply security for critical metals as the overarching goal.

Market Reaction Remains Muted

Those operational wins have done little to lift the stock. The shares closed Friday at EUR 1.65, leaving them just 3.0% above their 52-week low of EUR 1.60. By Monday the picture had deteriorated further: the stock dropped 7.6% to a new annual trough of EUR 1.52, extending a downtrend that has been in place for weeks. Year-to-date, the equity has shed 47% of its value, and it now sits roughly 71% below its 52-week high, reached last October.

The gap between operational news and price action has become the defining feature of the IperionX story in recent months. A month ago, disclosure of a review into the company's financial reporting added fresh pressure, and the shares have given up around 29.7% since that announcement alone.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IperionX?

All Eyes on 23–24 September

Attention is now fixed on 23 and 24 September, when IperionX is expected to publish its latest business figures, according to media reports. Investor nerves are understandable given recent history: the release of first-half fiscal 2026 results back in March triggered a heavy sell-off, with shareholders reacting poorly to the balance sheet data covering the period through the end of December 2025. Market participants are hoping the upcoming report will shed more light on the company's financial condition and ease some of the prevailing uncertainty.

The numbers from that first half illustrate both the scale of the ambition and the cost of pursuing it. IperionX posted a loss of USD 0.10 per share for the period while still generating no revenue. Total expenditure reached USD 34.8 million, funded from a liquidity position of USD 65.8 million at the close of the reporting period. More than USD 31 million went into capital expenditure, with a further USD 10 million-plus allocated to research and development — a clear signal that the company is prioritising capacity build-out over near-term earnings.

Tennessee Project Anchors the Long Game

The cornerstone of that strategy remains the Titan Critical Minerals Project in Tennessee. A definitive feasibility study, tabled on 4 June, envisions a 14-year mine life with a post-tax net present value of USD 813 million and free cash flow of USD 1.9 billion. Beyond titanium, the site is slated to yield heavy rare earth concentrates and zircon.

Governance has been strengthened in parallel. Since 3 August, Michael J. Loparco has served as an independent, non-executive director on the board, brought in to help steer the company's next phase of development.

Analyst Support Provides a Counterweight

Not everyone is bearish. Jefferies initiated coverage of the stock on 2 September with a buy recommendation, with its analysts betting that IperionX will carve out a significant long-term role in titanium recycling technologies. That endorsement, however, has so far failed to put a floor under the share price.

For now, the company finds itself in an unusual position: operational momentum is building, the balance sheet still carries meaningful reserves, and a marquee US defence customer is expanding its commitment — yet the market keeps voting the other way. The September update may be the next real opportunity to close that gap.
