IperionX has begun commissioning an Elnik cold-wall sintering furnace at its Virginia site, a technical step that expands downstream capacity for its HSPT process — the route by which titanium powder is converted directly into finished components. The added unit is intended to lift throughput and give the plant more manufacturing flexibility.

The move slots into a broader site strategy. According to the annual report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, the Virginia facility already runs continuous shift operations, and management is targeting annual output of roughly 1,400 tonnes, backed by estimated investment of USD 75 million. Scaling capacity is central to the company's ambition of establishing its own process in the lightweight materials market and building a closed value chain that reduces reliance on conventional supply routes.

Funding, milestones and a stock under pressure

Existing contracts underpin that buildout. About a month ago, the U.S. Department of Defense fully obligated USD 47.1 million in funding to the company. Since then the shares have shed 20.3 percent. Roughly two weeks ago, IperionX also reported progress in continuous titanium production using its GenX process, after which the stock gave up a further 8.2 percent.

The equity itself has been volatile. On Thursday it touched a new 52-week low of EUR 1.38 before rebounding 5.1 percent on Friday to close at EUR 1.54 — a bounce for which the market had no specific company-related trigger. Year-to-date, the stock is down 51 percent.

Vanguard builds a stake as the loss widens

Behind those swings, the shareholder register is shifting. The Vanguard Group has moved in as a major holder, securing 5.082 percent of voting rights. Institutional investors adjusted their positions more broadly, while management also saw shares released from earlier collateral arrangements. On the same day, CEO Anastasios Arima reported the return of 1,000,000 common shares that had been released from escrow following repayment of a loan.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IperionX?

Such commitments from large asset managers point to strategic confidence stretching beyond ordinary quarterly cycles. For those tracking titanium supply chains in key industries such as aerospace and defense, the calculation runs over multi-year horizons. Yet the entry of these heavyweights raises a pressing question for the market: can the technological lead outweigh the financial strain before existing funds run dry?

The cash burn test

The recently filed annual report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026 lays out the operational stress test. IperionX posted a net loss after tax of USD 66.8 million, compared with a deficit of USD 35.3 million in the prior fiscal year 2025. Cash and cash equivalents stood at USD 35.2 million at the balance sheet date.

That widening shortfall shows how much capital the industrial buildout consumes. Titanium is a highly complex material whose processing has traditionally been extremely energy- and cost-intensive. Challenging established Kroll methods requires heavy outlays before meaningful revenue flows, leaving investors exposed to dilution and financing risk as the remaining cash cushion narrows the window for reaching cash generation.

Efficiency gains as the strategic lever

On the operational side, the company is working to substantiate that technological edge. In its first production campaigns, the continuous process achieved six times the throughput volume of the previous batch system, while power consumption came in more than 75 percent lower.

Those efficiency gains form the foundation on which the new investors' hopes rest. If titanium powder can be produced with significantly reduced energy input and consistent quality, the company could occupy a strategic niche.

The setup for IperionX therefore cuts both ways. On the plus side sit validated production advances and the growing weight of influential fund managers in the shareholder base. Against that stands a rapid liquidity drain that puts management under pressure. Whether the Wall Street engagement ultimately pays off depends solely on how quickly the technology can be commercialized at scale.

Annual meeting set for November

Shareholders have another reference point ahead: IperionX will hold its annual meeting on November 25, 2026, with board nominations open for submission until October 7, 2026.
