A new wave of professional safety training is sweeping across the UK this week, led by the launch of an IOSH Managing Safely course in Manchester. The programme arrives alongside fresh research suggesting many British organisations may be overconfident in their ability to handle complex workplace risks — particularly around modern slavery.
Manchester Hosts New Safety Training Sessions
The Ouch Training Team began a three-day IOSH Managing Safely course at The Heatons Centre in Manchester on August 10, 2026. Priced at £477.60, the session equips managers and supervisors with practical tools for handling health and safety within their teams, and concludes on August 12.
The regional push continues with Caring For Care Limited, which launched two-day Moving & Handling Train the Trainer courses in both Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent on the same date. These sessions certify trainers to implement safe handling practices within their own organisations.

Study Exposes Confidence Gap in Modern Slavery Protections
The training expansion coincides with an IOSH study, conducted via YouGov among 1,011 decision-makers, revealing a disconnect between corporate confidence and actual safety infrastructure.
According to the report, 70 percent of organisations lack a formal assessment procedure for modern slavery risks, while 62 percent offer no formal training on the subject. A further 44 percent have no mechanism for employees or stakeholders to report concerns.
Despite these gaps, 56 percent of surveyed decision-makers expressed confidence in their organisation's management of such risks. The findings carry particular weight given that 23,411 potential victims of modern slavery were identified in the UK in 2025, with global estimates suggesting around 50 million people are affected worldwide.
Industry Embraces IOSH Qualifications
Industrial firms are increasingly building IOSH certifications into their long-term recruitment strategies. MM Packaging Deeside in Flintshire recently announced five new apprenticeships across engineering, finance, operations, and estimation. The three-year programme leads to a Level 3 NVQ and includes the IOSH Managing Safely qualification, ensuring safety standards are embedded from day one. Nine former apprentices have already moved into permanent roles following their training.
In a separate initiative, the AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group has deepened its partnership with The Retrofit Academy. Under CEOs Kevern Kerswell and David Pierpoint, the organisations are consolidating all regulated retrofit qualifications under the AIM umbrella to establish clearer competence standards in the sector.
Safety Training Goes Global and Flexible
The focus on safety education extends beyond UK borders. Mumbai's fire safety management sector now counts 157 verified companies, including NIFS and the Vision Institute, offering both offline and online training to meet regional demand.
Academic providers are also introducing more flexible options, such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Behaviour Based Safety from the London School of International Business. This non-accredited programme offers fast-track completion in one to two months, reflecting a broader trend toward accessible, assessment-based professional development in the safety sector.
