IonQ's Asia Push Meets Its Tennessee Debut as Analysts Split on the Road Ahead

IonQ is pressing ahead on two fronts at once. The US quantum-computing specialist has struck a multi-year strategic alliance with South Korea's SDT, while simultaneously bringing its first commercial US ion-trap installation online in Chattanooga. The twin developments land as the stock trades at 35.38 EUR, up 3.8% on the day, buoyed by a broader rally in US technology names.
A Manufacturing Foothold in Gumi
Under the SDT agreement, IonQ will ship its Superion 256 quantum system and silicon-vacancy (SiV) quantum memory modules to South Korea — the first time either technology has been made available in that market. The hardware is earmarked for SDT's customers, including a hybrid quantum-classical computing center being developed with a domestic cancer institute for medical and biomedical research.
To support the tie-up, SDT intends to build a dedicated manufacturing and systems-integration facility in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. Packaging and production of the SiV memory modules will take place there, alongside assembly, integration and commissioning of the quantum systems. IonQ is transferring technology and manufacturing know-how as part of the arrangement, and SDT will serve as preferred partner and reseller for IonQ systems across the region.
The deal broadens a relationship that had previously centered on cloud software interfaces, and it slots alongside IonQ's existing industrial and research partnerships in South Korea, including work with Hyundai Motor Company and SK Telecom. CEO Niccolo de Masi pointed to rising global demand for the Superion 256 and the goal of cementing a commercial base in Asia.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IonQ?
Forte Enterprise Goes Live
Stateside, the energy and communications provider EPB commissioned the IonQ Forte Enterprise system at the Chattanooga Quantum Center last Friday. It marks the first commercial US facility to pair trapped-ion quantum processors with photonic quantum networking. Following an initial phase reserved for fellows, regular commercial service is scheduled to begin in October.
IonQ is also taking a platinum sponsorship role at the Quantum World Congress in College Park, running from September 23 to 25. De Masi is set to deliver a keynote on Thursday addressing infrastructure for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Guidance, Analysts and the Year-to-Date Picture
On September 8, at its first joint investor day, IonQ pegged full-year 2026 revenue at USD 450 million to USD 460 million — a range that folds in contributions from SkyWater Technology, whose acquisition closed on July 31. The same event prompted Mizuho Securities to trim its price target to USD 52 from USD 61 on September 8, while keeping a buy rating on the shares.
Elsewhere in the analyst community, Needham reaffirmed a buy recommendation with a USD 65 target, and Rosenblatt Securities rates the stock with a USD 100 target. The consensus among covering firms sees the chief upside in the ongoing commercialization and scaling of the company's hardware architecture.
The shares have slipped 11% since the start of the year and sit 52% below their 52-week high, even as market participants weigh the recent business milestones and the raised revenue outlook against upcoming sector events.
