Infineon shares fell 2.9% in Friday's Xetra session to close at EUR 51.54, pushing the stock beneath its 50-day moving average of EUR 57.83. The decline came amid a broad technology selloff that swept through leading markets in the US and Asia, with investors revisiting concerns about stretched valuations and financing costs across the tech sector.

Over the full week, the DAX-listed chipmaker has shed 13% of its value. Mounting skepticism about the durability of global AI infrastructure spending has been the central drag, according to media reports. The pressure had already begun building on Thursday, when unexpectedly high US inflation data, growing doubts about the profitability of massive AI investments and intensifying competition from China combined to knock back German semiconductor names. No company-specific negative news was behind the slide.

Analysts Urge Caution Ahead of Annual Results

Market watchers are taking a measured view on the stock's near-term potential. On Thursday, research firm mwb research reiterated its "Hold" rating with a price target of EUR 60.00. The analysts see only limited room for positive surprises in the upcoming fourth-quarter figures, arguing that a sustained re-rating depends largely on whether Infineon can deliver margin improvements outside the AI boom.

Attention is now fixed on November 10, when the company is scheduled to report fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results alongside fresh guidance for the coming fiscal year. The date is widely regarded as a key gauge of how Infineon's traditional automotive and industrial segments are performing.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

Power Electronics Push Continues

Beyond the market turbulence, Infineon has spent recent weeks expanding its portfolio for energy-hungry applications. On October 5, the company completed its acquisition of C2i Semiconductors, whose team has been folded into the Power Systems Division to deepen capabilities in digital power management for AI data centers. The firm specializes in software-defined multiphase controllers and intelligent power stages used in artificial intelligence computing facilities.

Two further product launches followed. On October 8, Infineon unveiled a 27-kilowatt three-phase power supply unit for AI servers that meets the OCP Open Rack V3 specification. Four days later, it introduced the XDP8HD40S-1 high-voltage hot-swap controller, designed for DC systems at ±400 volts and 800 volts. Both solutions target the surging energy demands and power density requirements of modern computing nodes.

Supply Chain and November Showcase

To lock in manufacturing capacity over the longer term, Infineon and Wolfspeed signed a multi-year supply agreement on October 15 covering 200mm silicon carbide wafers. The deal shifts deliveries from the previous 150mm substrates to the larger format, supporting the ramp-up of Infineon's in-house SiC production and bolstering supply chain resilience.

The company will also present system solutions for robotics, mobility, edge devices and data center infrastructure at the electronica trade fair in Munich, running from November 10 to 13 — the same day its annual figures land.
