Infineon Technologies used the past week to roll out a cluster of product and partnership announcements spanning automotive microcontrollers, data-centre power delivery and high-voltage DC systems — a burst of activity that coincided with a sector-wide retreat in chip stocks driven by worries over AI infrastructure spending.

The centrepiece came on Wednesday with the unveiling of the AURIX-RC1 microcontroller platform, which the company describes as its first MCU family built on the open RISC-V instruction set architecture. Samples are slated for the first half of 2027, leaving a development step between this week's launch and the planned silicon.

Automotive ambitions were reinforced two days earlier, when Infineon struck a collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies covering an Infineon microcontroller subsystem for Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride reference platforms for vehicle computers. That tie-up sits in a different application lane from the data-centre and communications-infrastructure products the company also presented this week.

Power Silicon for AI Servers and Telecoms

On the data-centre front, Infineon brought its OptiMOS-7 40V MOSFET product family to market on Tuesday, aimed at AI servers, data centres and telecommunications infrastructure. The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with SOLUM on Wednesday to deepen cooperation on high-voltage direct-current solutions for powering AI data centres — a non-binding agreement to extend the existing relationship.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

A firmer commitment came from Vertiv, which on Wednesday closed a three-year strategic agreement with Infineon for the supply of silicon and silicon-carbide power semiconductors, including deployment in 800 VDC power supply systems.

Infineon's push into European power semiconductors predates this week's flurry. On 27 October the company announced what it calls the world's first high-volume production of GaN power semiconductors on 300mm wafers in Europe, with roughly EUR 1.1 billion earmarked through 2034 for existing cleanroom space at its Villach site. The project carries EUR 319 million in funding under the European Chips Act and uses cleanroom capacity already in place.

GaN Wins With a Data-Centre Angle

A more direct link to the data-centre market emerged on 26 October, when Infineon disclosed a supply deal with Enphase Energy for monolithic bidirectional 900V GaN switches. Those parts are destined for solid-state transformer power modules intended for use in AI data centres, among other applications.

The same day brought a 5.6 kW M-CRPS reference design for enterprise servers and edge AI, which Infineon says targets efficiency profiles under 80 PLUS Ruby and the GB 20943-2025 standard. Infineon also introduced ENDOPACK as a brand for chip-embedding solutions that day, pledging to extend the technology beyond low-voltage applications into high-voltage power electronics.

Market Jitters Over AI Build-Out

Against that product momentum, the stock ran into a broad selloff on Thursday. According to dpa-AFX, investors feared delays to data-centre expansion after the Democrats' midterm election victory, amid concerns that stricter rules could be imposed on AI computing facilities. Media reports said the retreat also sharpened doubts over whether the hefty AI investments would pay off.

Infineon at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The shares steadied on Friday, gaining 1.8% according to one account and 1.9% in another, following the previous day's steep decline.

Infineon is scheduled to publish results for its fourth quarter and the 2026 fiscal year on 10 November.
