Infineon's Order Book Grows Even as Its Share Price Shrinks

Infineon closed at EUR 51.54, down 2.9%, as sector-wide AI spending concerns and hot US inflation data weighed ahead of Q4 results on November 10.

Infineon closed Friday's session at EUR 51.54, down 2.9%, capping a week in which the German chipmaker's stock shed 13% of its value. The retreat came not from anything in Infineon's own newsflow but from a broad sell-off in European technology names, with the Munich group swept along by forces well beyond its control.

At the heart of the pressure are mounting doubts about whether the global build-out of artificial intelligence can be sustained at its current pace. Those concerns, reported by both Reuters and AP, have hit semiconductor and technology stocks across the board. Adding to the gloom: unexpectedly hot US inflation data and a tightening competitive squeeze from Chinese memory-chip manufacturers, according to the Stuttgarter Zeitung. No company-specific bad news was behind the slide.

The damage was visible across the sector. On Thursday, Infineon fell 5.2%, while French peer Soitec dropped 7.7% as investors trimmed exposure to chipmakers on fears that capital spending in the technology sector could lose momentum and that Asian rivals will keep up the price pressure.

Building for the AI Power Boom

Yet while the market frets, Infineon has been quietly assembling the pieces of a server-power franchise. On October 5 the company completed its acquisition of C2i Semiconductors, folding the team into its Power Systems Division to sharpen its digital power management capabilities for AI data centres. Three days later it unveiled a three-phase power supply rated at 27 kilowatts for AI servers, built to meet the OCP Open Rack V3 specification.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

The supply chain is being secured in parallel. Infineon signed a multi-year agreement with Wolfspeed for 200-mm silicon carbide wafers, extending an existing arrangement for 150-mm substrates and smoothing the shift to the larger format in power semiconductors.

Investors will get a closer look at these efforts at electronica in Munich, running from November 10 to 13, where Infineon will present solutions spanning data centres, robotics, automotive applications and edge computing.

Analysts Hold Their Fire Ahead of the Numbers

Against that operational backdrop, mwb research reiterated its "Halten" — hold — rating on Thursday, keeping a EUR 60 price target on the shares. The analysts see limited room for positive surprises in the upcoming fourth-quarter figures, arguing that a lasting re-rating depends above all on whether Infineon can deliver margin improvements outside the AI boom.

The next real test arrives on November 10, when the company is scheduled to publish detailed results for the fourth quarter and the full 2026 fiscal year. That release is widely regarded as the key gauge of how the core automotive and industrial businesses are performing — and of how deeply the tough market environment and competitive pressure are biting into the chipmaker's earnings and guidance.

There was also movement on the shareholder register. Norway's government, acting through its finance ministry, disclosed on Thursday a change in its voting stake in Infineon, after the relevant reporting threshold was crossed on October 7.
