Infineon shares rose 4.9% to EUR 50.91 on Monday as investors welcomed a fresh partnership with Enphase Energy covering power chips for artificial intelligence data centers. The advance, which lifts the stock's gain since the start of the year to 35%, came alongside a broader tailwind from the US, where strength in chip names set a positive tone. Traders pointed in particular to NXP and its newly signed agreement with Volkswagen covering automotive chip supply.

Under the deal announced Monday, Infineon will supply monolithic 900 V gallium nitride (GaN) bidirectional switches destined for Enphase's solid-state transformers used in AI data centers. Infineon says the device is the world's first monolithic GaN bidirectional switch at that voltage class. The components have already been tested and are now being folded directly into ongoing product development; qualification tests still lie ahead before planned series production. The technology is designed to cut the number of power conversion stages and components while raising efficiency, power density and reliability.

A string of agreements, not a single headline

The Enphase tie-up is the latest in a busy run of technology initiatives. On 21 October, Infineon and Nvidia said they would deepen their collaboration, focusing on GaN-based high-voltage intermediate bus converters for 800 V DC architectures in AI data centers. Two days earlier, on 19 October, Infineon, Volkswagen CARIAD and the Volkswagen China Technology Company signed an agreement and opened a joint innovation center for automotive chips in Hefei. On the materials side, Infineon concluded a multi-year supply agreement with Wolfspeed on 15 October for 200 mm silicon carbide wafers, upgrading an existing partnership from 150 mm wafers.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

Estimates are rising — and so is the bar

Sentiment on earnings has been improving. Over the past 90 days, Infineon's profit estimates have been raised seven times and cut twice, a predominantly positive direction. That is a favorable signal for expected business development, but it is not proof of higher profits; rising expectations simultaneously raise the yardstick against which investors will measure the next set of results.

Analysts expect revenue of EUR 4.69 billion and earnings of EUR 0.62 per share when the company reports on 10 November. An analysis published yesterday tied further upside to beating both revenue and profit expectations and to an upgraded outlook — meaning strong results alone may not be enough.

The AI power business: growth versus profitability

Central to that test is the power supply for AI data centers, where growth opportunities and questions about profitability sit side by side. A report published yesterday projects roughly EUR 1.5 billion in revenue for Infineon's AI server business in 2026, with expected growth of more than 100%. The forecast underlines the segment's importance, though it remains an expectation rather than revenue already booked. For valuation purposes, how profitable the power supply solutions become matters as much as the growth itself.

Technical progress alone does not answer what earnings contribution Infineon can generate. The company's starting position therefore combines better profit estimates with demanding expectations for its AI business. The technology underpins the growth story, but a durable re-rating requires economic confirmation: convincing results, a corresponding outlook and progress toward series production.
