Infineon shares rose 2.6% on Wednesday, a partial rebound after the stock shed 11% a day earlier in a broad rout of technology and semiconductor names. The Munich chipmaker closed Tuesday's session at EUR 45.05.

The selloff, according to media reports, stemmed from mounting unease over the AI sector, including the prospect of tighter regulation of AI infrastructure buildout in the United States. Worries that US Democrats could slow the expansion of AI data centres fed doubts about whether the industry's hefty investments will pay off. Wednesday's advance was described in media coverage as a countermovement following the sector-wide losses.

Bernstein Pushes Back on the Panic

Bernstein weighed in on the reaction, calling the market's response overdone. The assessment, published in Wednesday's coverage, addressed the concerns about AI infrastructure expansion that followed the US election outcome.

JPMorgan, for its part, reaffirmed its "Overweight" rating on Infineon on Wednesday with a price target of EUR 96. Analyst Sandeep Deshpande said he considers company targets for 2027 to be slightly above consensus estimates within reach.

Power Semiconductors for AI Servers

On the product front, Infineon introduced its OptiMOS-7 power MOSFETs at 40 volts on Tuesday. The components, aimed at powering AI servers, are available and in mass production, according to the company. They also target data centre and telecommunications infrastructure applications, with Infineon citing greater efficiency and power density in power conversion as key attributes.

RISC-V Platform for Software-Defined Vehicles

Infineon also unveiled the AURIX RC1 microcontroller platform on Wednesday, aimed at software-defined vehicles and physical-AI applications. The platform is built on the open RISC-V instruction set architecture, the company said. Samples are slated for the first half of 2027 — an announced availability timeline rather than deliveries already made.

The vehicle-side announcements trace back to Monday, when Infineon and Qualcomm Technologies agreed a technology collaboration on central vehicle computers. The plan covers a microcontroller-based subsystem for Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride reference platforms, designed to support high-performance computing and vehicle-integrated AI.
