Infineon closed down 2.9% at EUR 51.54 as weak tech sentiment hit chip stocks, while it expanded a silicon carbide wafer supply deal with Wolfspeed.

Infineon Technologies spent the back half of the week laying industrial groundwork while its share price absorbed a sector-wide blow. By Friday's close the Munich chipmaker had shed 2.9% to EUR 51.54, one of the steepest declines among DAX constituents, as a weak technology tape dragged semiconductor names lower across the board.

The pressure came from across the Atlantic. According to Reuters and dpa-AFX, hotter-than-expected US inflation data, rising interest rate expectations and mounting doubts over the cost and financing of artificial intelligence data centers combined to sour sentiment on the sector. No company-specific bad news was behind the slide.

Despite the pullback, Infineon's stock remains up 37% since the start of the year.

Silicon Carbide Supply Locked In Through 200mm Transition

The day before the selloff, management moved to shore up its core manufacturing base. Infineon and Wolfspeed, Inc. announced a substantial expansion of their existing long-term supply agreement for silicon carbide material — extending its duration and widening its scope.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

Under the revised deal, Wolfspeed will now also supply Infineon with silicon carbide wafers measuring 200 millimeters in diameter. The prior arrangement covered only 150-millimeter wafers. Infineon said the multi-year agreement is designed specifically to secure and accelerate its shift of silicon carbide power semiconductor production from the smaller 150mm platform to the larger 200mm standard.

The supply-chain step came just days after Infineon completed another piece of its expansion. On October 5 the company closed its acquisition of C2i Semiconductors, a Bengaluru-based Indian firm specializing in software-defined multiphase controllers and power stages for data centers.

AI, Robotics and Edge in the Spotlight at electronica

Infineon is also positioning itself for the demand side of the AI economy. On Wednesday it said it will unveil new semiconductor innovations and system solutions at the electronica trade fair in Munich, running from November 10 to 13. The presentations will span physical AI, robotics, mobility, edge devices and power supply infrastructure for artificial intelligence.

Before that, the company hosts its own OktoberTech Silicon Valley technology and cooperation conference on October 22, marking the event's tenth anniversary this year. The gathering centers on strategic exchange with industry partners and new system approaches.

Norges Bank Stake Nudged Below Threshold

A minor formal adjustment surfaced in Infineon's shareholder register on Thursday. A corrected voting rights notification showed that Norway's central bank, Norges Bank, revised its holding from exactly 3.00% to 2.9997%, slipping just beneath the 3% reporting threshold.

Quiet Period Ahead of Full-Year Results

Investors now face a short wait for hard financial data. Infineon will publish results for the fourth quarter and the full 2026 fiscal year on November 10. Until that release, the company said it is observing a quiet period with the capital markets. The report will show how the operating business has held up against a shifting rate environment and restrained appetite for technology investment.
