Hensoldt Clears Regulatory Hurdle for Electronic Warfare Joint Venture as Q2 Revenue Jumps 22%

Hensoldt has secured the antitrust approval needed to move forward with a four-company consortium aimed at capturing a forthcoming Bundeswehr contract in electronic warfare. The green light removes a key regulatory obstacle, allowing the sensor specialist to deepen its collaboration with Rohde & Schwarz, Plath, and General Dynamics European Land Systems-Bridge Systems.
The partnership, structured as a project-specific joint venture, is designed to prepare a combined bid for a German military order that has yet to be formally tendered. With no contract awarded so far, the four partners are concentrating on aligning technical and operational interfaces. For Hensoldt Sensors, the alliance offers an early opportunity to embed its sensor technology into the program — a familiar playbook in defense contracting, where companies pool specialized capabilities to present integrated system solutions for complex force requirements.
Market Reaction Muted as Shares Edge Lower
Investors took the news in stride. In today's session, the stock slipped 0.4% to EUR 75.30, following a close of EUR 75.46 in the prior session. The company carries a market capitalization of EUR 8.81 billion, yet its share price remains 36% below its 52-week high — a gap that underscores how much of the consortium's promise is already baked into expectations versus what still needs to be proven.
What market participants will ultimately judge is whether these preparatory structures translate into actual contract awards. Electronic warfare has become a central technology field in modern conflicts, with systems for detecting, jamming, and countering electromagnetic signals gaining strategic importance among armed forces worldwide. The new venture gives Hensoldt a chance to pool development resources and reinforce its product portfolio. Building such a cooperation carries operational risks, but strategically it sharpens the group's focus.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Hensoldt?
Q2 Figures Show Underlying Momentum
Operational tailwinds are already visible in the numbers. Revenue for the second quarter of 2026 climbed 22.22% year-on-year to EUR 671 million, up from EUR 549 million in the same period a year earlier. The advance reflects sustained demand for defense electronics and radar systems. In Germany, state defense spending in August ran more than 30% above the prior-year level, keeping defense contractors operating at consistently high utilization rates — a trend that underpins Hensoldt's medium-term outlook.
Profitability improved alongside the top line. Earnings per share came in at EUR 0.07 for the quarter, reversing a loss of EUR 0.10 per share in the comparable year-ago period.
Infrastructure and Export Deals Advance in Parallel
Beyond the consortium and quarterly results, Hensoldt is pushing ahead on several operational fronts. On Monday, the company held its topping-out ceremony for a new German headquarters in Taufkirchen, spanning more than 12,000 square meters. Completion and occupancy are scheduled for the end of 2027.
Internationally, the sensor business is also gaining traction. On September 22, Hensoldt South Africa and HEVI Optronics agreed on the delivery of 200 KENIS 1280 AK thermal imaging sensors. The South African subsidiary is simultaneously introducing the sensor as a standalone product in its portfolio. At the Africa Aerospace and Defence 2026 trade fair, the company also presented its Automated Spectrum Management System for frequency monitoring.
November Results in Focus
Whether the current momentum carries through the rest of the year will become clearer in a matter of weeks. Hensoldt is expected to publish its third-quarter figures on November 5. Market watchers will be looking for signs of tangible operational momentum from the newly approved joint venture — and for evidence that the consortium's groundwork is beginning to convert into firm orders.
