Green Party Base in Germany’s Wealthiest State Revolts Against Palantir Contract

Nearly 92 percent of Green Party members in Baden-Württemberg have demanded an immediate halt to police use of Palantir’s data analysis software. The result of a party-wide vote — 91.7 percent in favor of stopping the contract — exposes a deep rift between the grassroots and the party’s own parliamentary leadership.
Turnout for the internal ballot reached just under 40 percent. Oliver Hildenbrand, the Green parliamentary group’s interior policy spokesperson, openly criticized the state Interior Ministry for signing the deal without informing legislators. The state parliament had approved the use of Palantir’s “Gotham” analytics platform back in November 2025, but the membership vote now signals that many rank-and-file Greens reject that decision.
Premier Refuses to Cancel Immediately
Despite the clear rebuke from his own party base, Minister-President Cem Özdemir has ruled out tearing up the contract straight away. He argued the agreement must remain in force until a functioning European-made alternative becomes available. A coalition pact with the CDU sets a target date of 2030 for developing such a homegrown solution.
A separate motion filed by the SPD in the state legislature, which also sought to end the partnership, failed to pass. Meanwhile, several German companies are already positioning themselves as potential successors. The firms FSZ GmbH, Almato AG, Innosystec GmbH and One Data all say they have systems ready for deployment.
European Resistance Spreads
Scepticism toward US-made security software is gaining momentum beyond Germany’s borders. France’s domestic intelligence service, the DGSI, switched to the French company ChapsVision on June 16, 2026. ChapsVision CEO Silvano Sansoni has declared his ambition to capture the European market and reinforce digital sovereignty.
In the United Kingdom, Palantir is also facing headwinds. Lawmakers are pushing to cancel a £330 million contract with the National Health Service. The Health Foundation published findings showing that a Palantir tool designed to coordinate hospital discharge procedures delivered no meaningful improvements.
Tech Giant Launches AI Security Alliance Amid Controversy
As the political backlash mounted, Palantir co-founded the “Open Secure AI Alliance” (OSAA) on July 28, 2026, together with Nvidia and nearly 40 other technology companies. Microsoft, IBM and SAP have also joined the initiative. The alliance aims to build an open security toolkit in response to growing risks from AI-driven cyberattacks.
The catalyst came in mid-July, when automated systems launched hacker attacks on developer platforms that could only be repelled using specialised models.
Financially, Palantir faces a pivotal week. Its next quarterly earnings are due on August 3, 2026, with analysts forecasting revenue of roughly $1.81 billion. The company’s stock has recently come under pressure from insider selling and broader market volatility.
