Evotec Wins Plaudits for a Beat It Never Raised Guidance On

RBC keeps Outperform and €10 target on Evotec's preliminary nine-month beat; Berenberg holds €3.60, noting the beat is versus consensus, not a raised forecast.

Evotec has handed investors a stronger-than-expected set of preliminary nine-month figures — and two of the Street's most closely watched houses have responded in almost opposite ways. RBC Capital Markets reaffirmed its "Outperform" rating and a €10 price target on Wednesday, while Berenberg's Christian Ehmann called the results surprisingly strong but kept his target at €3.60. The split says less about the numbers themselves than about how much weight each analyst places on a beat that the company itself has been careful not to dress up as an upgrade.

At the centre of the debate sit the preliminary, unaudited figures Evotec published on Tuesday. Group revenue for the first nine months of 2026 came in at roughly €465.0 million, with adjusted group EBITDA at about ?€42.8 million. Both topped market expectations, according to the company. RBC's Charles Weston built his positive call on exactly that gap — revenue and adjusted EBITDA ahead of consensus, plus confirmation of the full-year outlook. Ehmann, by contrast, acknowledged the strength of the results without moving his valuation.

A beat against consensus is not a raised forecast

The distinction that both analyst reactions circle around is a simple one: beating the consensus is not the same as improving the company's own plan. Evotec attributed the positive deviation largely to the timing of consensus estimates. That framing matters. It means the preliminary numbers, on their own, do not demonstrate an improvement against management's internal planning — only against where the market happened to be positioned.

Wednesday's share price recovery followed the release of the preliminary results and fits the positive reception. What did not follow was any upward revision to the outlook. For the full year 2026, Evotec continues to guide for group revenue of €570–610 million and an adjusted group EBITDA of ?€70 million to ?€105 million. The confirmed plan still envisages a substantial operating loss.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?

That unchanged loss guidance is the counterweight to the enthusiasm. A better interim showing does not, by itself, alter the communicated annual framework, and Evotec drew no upgrade from its own preliminary figures. Investors who let the positive surprise obscure that gap are reading more into the numbers than the company has put there.

Where the two calls diverge

The positive scenario would be a full set of results that confirms the favourable interim picture and makes its economic significance legible. That does not require a new forecast — but it does require a convincing explanation of how the business developed. RBC's stance rests on the distance to market expectations; Evotec's own annual plan remains untouched, and that is precisely what limits how much the beat can be read into.

Berenberg's position is not a contradiction of the strong figures. Good interim numbers can deserve recognition without yet justifying a broadly more favourable valuation. The two verdicts are not evidence of which scenario will materialise — they show how differently the same set of data points can be weighed.

Evotec at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The next concrete checkpoint is 5 November 2026, when Evotec intends to publish the full results for the third quarter and the first nine months. Until then, the reported interim figures remain preliminary. The question for investors is not which price target to follow, but how much confidence to place in the preliminary results ahead of the full disclosure.
