Evotec's stronger-than-expected interim figures have done little to shift the fundamental debate around the stock. Within days of the preliminary release, three major houses published their verdicts — and not one of them moved its rating, even as their price targets span a range wide enough to suggest investors are looking at three different companies.

Berenberg kept its "Hold" call and a EUR 3.60 target on Friday, while Deutsche Bank stuck with "Hold" and a EUR 3.50 target on Thursday. RBC Capital Markets, meanwhile, reaffirmed "Outperform" with a EUR 10 target on Wednesday. The gap between the bulls and the fence-sitters is stark, but the shared element matters more: none of the three saw fit to upgrade its recommendation after the numbers landed.

A beat with a built-in caveat

The preliminary, unaudited figures for the first nine months of 2026 showed group revenue of roughly EUR 465.0 million and an adjusted group EBITDA of about EUR ?42.8 million. Both topped market expectations, according to the company.

Evotec itself was quick to temper the reading. The outperformance stemmed largely from the timing of consensus estimates, the company said — a mechanical explanation that makes the beat harder to read as evidence of a genuinely stronger underlying business. A better interim snapshot, in other words, does not automatically translate into a better full year.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?

That distinction sits at the heart of the split among analysts. Berenberg flagged tailwinds from research and preclinical development as an operational signal behind the stronger figures, yet left its recommendation untouched — praising the data without turning more constructive on the shares. Deutsche Bank, for its part, also judged the quarter ahead of market expectations but pointed to surprisingly gloomy prospects for the closing three months of the year.

Guidance stays exactly where it was

If the beat had genuinely changed the outlook, the full-year forecast would be the place to show it. It hasn't. Evotec reiterated 2026 group revenue of around EUR 570–610 million and an adjusted EBITDA loss of roughly EUR 70–105 million.

The confirmed loss projection is the clearest limit on how much weight the positive surprise can carry. No revenue upgrade followed the better figures, and the operating result outlook remains firmly in the red. For investors, that makes the confirmed guidance a more reliable yardstick than any single price target — a bullish recommendation is not the same thing as a raised forecast from the company itself.

Evotec at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

November 5 as the next reckoning

Evotec has scheduled full third-quarter and nine-month results for November 5, 2026, the next opportunity to put the preliminary numbers in proper perspective. Until then, optimistic targets and an unchanged negative earnings outlook will sit side by side.

What the full report needs to show is how the operational momentum in research and preclinical work squares with the cautious earnings guidance. The interim data establish a positive surprise against expectations; a broader improvement across the full year is a claim they have yet to support.
