European Metals Holdings Hits 52-Week Low as Geomet Buyback Deadline Looms
Published on 10/09/2026 at 18:20 | Editorial boerse-global.deShares in European Metals Holdings came under heavy selling pressure on Friday, with the stock touching a 52-week low of EUR 0.0944 — a decline of 14% on the day. A separate reading earlier in the session had shown a drop of 8.6% to EUR 0.1005. No fresh ad-hoc announcement accompanied the move, leaving investors to focus on an unresolved financing question hanging over the company's flagship project vehicle, Geomet.
At the heart of the uncertainty is a EUR 13 million capital call at Geomet s.r.o. European Metals declined to fund its pro-rata share, prompting CEZ subsidiary Severo?eské doly to step in and cover the entire amount in exchange for two additional equity interests. The transaction diluted European Metals' stake in Geomet from 49% to 42.62%, temporarily weakening its legal position in the project and underscoring the capital intensity of bringing the venture to fruition.
A EUR 6.45 Million Buyback With a Hard Deadline
To reverse that dilution, European Metals holds a contractual repurchase option on the additional interests. Exercising it would cost EUR 6,448,325, and the clock runs out on 13 November 2026. Management has signalled its intention to pull the trigger, but the funds are not yet in hand — the company is in talks with third-party financiers, and until those negotiations conclude, the question of how the stake will be funded remains open.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying European Metals Holdings?
The financing challenge builds on recent operating results. Roughly a month ago, European Metals reported a loss of AUD 3.19 million for the half-year ended 30 June 2026, widening from AUD 2.75 million in the prior-year period. Management flagged in that report that additional capital would be required to preserve its existing interest in Geomet.
Consultant Options Add Another Layer
Alongside the funding question, the company adjusted its compensation arrangements. On 25 September, it issued 5,000,000 unlisted options to consultants under its remuneration programme, exercisable at AUD 0.25 until 31 December 2026. The instruments carry neither voting nor dividend rights until converted into shares, tying external advisers to the business without immediately enlarging the share capital.
With a current market capitalisation of EUR 25.83 million, European Metals now faces a pivotal stretch. Should management fail to secure the necessary funds by 13 November 2026, the reduced Geomet holding becomes permanent. Investors are waiting for tangible progress in the announced financing discussions.
