07.08.2025 - 18:00:21Commissioner Dalli leads EU delegation to New York for the 68th meeting of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women
BRUSSELS, 11 March 2024 / PRN Africa / -- Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, is leading the EU delegation for the 68th meeting of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York from 11 to 22 March. This meeting is the biggest global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
On 11 March, Commissioner Dalli will join the opening session of the Commission on the Status of Women and will contribute to a statement on behalf of the Group of Friends on the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls. During the following two days, she will attend a variety of events with ministers of gender equality from across the world, including a ministerial round table on good practices for strengthening institutions and maximizing financing to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Together with the Belgian Secretary of State for Gender Equality, Marie-Cecile Leroy, Commissioner Dalli will also co-host a side event on Harnessing Social Protection to Tackle Women’s Poverty.
Commissioner Dalli will further hold bilateral meetings in the margins of the main events, including with EU Youth Delegates, European civil society representatives, Alexei Burzu, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova, Isata Mahoi, Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs of the Republic of the Sierra Leone, Cida Gonçalves, Minister of Women of Brazil, and Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women to discuss global advancement of women’s rights.
