Energy Fuels: A Lower Bar to Clear, Not a Broken Story

Energy Fuels shares fell 4.8% on Friday, caught in a downdraft that swept through uranium and nuclear names broadly. The trigger, according to media reports, was a combination of rising real yields weighing on long-duration assets and a retreat from the AI-power trade that spilled over into nuclear equities. Cameco's quarterly results — softer earnings and pressure on production costs — added to the gloom.

The distinction matters. A sector-wide selloff explains the selling pressure; it says nothing about the quality of Energy Fuels' individual projects. Equally, it would be too convenient to pin every burden on the sector alone.

B. Riley Trims the Yardstick, Keeps the Verdict

On Wednesday, B. Riley lowered its price target on Energy Fuels from $25 to $19 while analyst Nick Giles maintained his Buy rating. The move was not isolated: the firm cut targets across its nuclear and uranium coverage, citing de-risking in particularly volatile stocks and the higher interest-rate environment. B. Riley also pointed to an average decline of 43% across the nuclear and uranium names it tracks since the Russell 2000's peak on August 14.

That combination — a positive rating paired with a notably lower target — is neither an all-clear nor a full reversal. The fundamental view survives; the expected upside has been reined in. Investors who fixate only on the Buy label underestimate the revision. Those who see only the cut miss that Giles has not abandoned his constructive stance. A trimmed target separates the assessment of the stock from the price an analyst considers appropriate under changed market conditions.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Energy Fuels?

Two Clocks Running at Once

Corporate progress and market valuation do not always keep the same time. That tension is visible in the conditional financing commitments for Phase 1 of the Donald project. Export Finance Australia and Australia's National Reconstruction Fund Corporation approved up to A$180 million, subject to further conditions, within a planned A$200 million senior project financing. It is progress, but not a completed financing: documentation, due diligence, commercial lender participation and final approvals all remain outstanding. Energy Fuels is targeting a final investment decision by the end of 2026. What counts for valuation is not the pledge alone but its execution.

The next concrete test on the corporate side is the conference call scheduled for November 5, 2026, to discuss third-quarter 2026 results. The financial figures and further highlights are to be published beforehand. After a sector-driven decline, what is needed is not another reading of the same price move but an assessment of the company's own business development.

The VAC File Stays Open

The planned acquisition of VAC remains a relevant backdrop. On October 13, Energy Fuels filed an amendment to the acquisition agreement with Ara Partners. It concerns an ongoing customer dispute over a commercial supply agreement, as well as a possible settlement, the repayment of certain debt and potential purchase-price adjustments. A possible adjustment could be economically material, but it is not a completed resolution. Nor can a specific financial outcome be inferred from the unresolved customer dispute. The actual terms and how events unfold remain decisive.

What Would Actually Change the Story

A friendlier mood in uranium stocks would not by itself prove progress at Energy Fuels. More weight belongs on the upcoming quarterly figures and on credible developments in the planned acquisition. The Cameco spillover supplies the immediate market context; the lowered B. Riley valuation and the open contract questions show why the company must make its own case. Until the numbers land, the continued positive analyst view remains a thesis awaiting confirmation — from the company's own results rather than from the sector's weather.
