DroneShield is stitching together two very different halves of its business: the fast-turnaround hardware work that gets counter-drone kit onto military vehicles, and a slower, more deliberate effort to convert that installed base into recurring software revenue.

The Australian counter-UAS specialist wrapped installation of its DroneSentry-X Mk2 systems on US Infantry Squad Vehicles roughly two weeks ago, a project that ran just 80 days from award through the C-UAS Marketplace to completion. The scope covered more than delivery — configuration and personnel training were part of the job. The compact direction-finding unit weighs 46 kilograms, provides full 360-degree coverage, and takes down drones through electronic warfare. DroneShield is feeding battlefield data from Ukraine into its detection algorithms as it refines them.

A Subscription Wrapper for the Installed Base

Alongside the hardware mounting, the company stood up Mission Ready Services, an annually renewable package that bundles software updates, technical support, e-learning and a customer portal. The offering is available worldwide across existing and future product generations. More than 4,100 software-capable devices are already in operational use, and current subscribers will roll into the new service at their next renewal while keeping access to the latest updates. CEO Angus Bean's pitch is durability: systems should stay as mission-ready years down the line as they were on day one.

That service layer matters because it loosens the company's reliance on lumpy procurement cycles. A global sales footprint spanning numerous countries also gives DroneShield a broad channel for folding fresh military requirements straight back into product development.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

The $500M Framework Still Waiting for Task Orders

Volume, though, hinges on a separate track. On Wednesday the company disclosed an IDIQ contract for the US JIATF-401 Domestic Shield program — a three-year vehicle carrying a maximum order value of up to USD 500 million. It is a procurement framework for US agencies, meaning concrete delivery orders only emerge once they are individually placed and separately disclosed. In other words, the ceiling is a right to bid, not booked revenue.

Adelaide Lab, AIM Defence Tie-Up and a Board Addition

On the development side, DroneShield opened a new engineering centre at the Lot Fourteen innovation precinct in Adelaide on 23 September, where about 20 engineering roles are planned around embedded systems, sensors, communications and electronic warfare. The site complements the existing Sydney research location.

External partnerships have deepened too. Roughly two weeks ago DroneShield announced a collaboration with AIM Defence to integrate the Fractl laser counter-drone system into its DroneSentry platform, aimed at interoperability between the two systems and joint customer activity — not a standalone supply contract.

Leadership is also being reinforced: Lynne Saint was named an independent non-executive director on Monday, taking up her mandate effective 24 November 2026, bringing a background in accounting, risk management and corporate governance.

Market Reaction

Sentiment has been fragile. The stock has shed 42 percent since the start of the year, closing yesterday at EUR 1.04. A 0.7 percent gain that session kept it tethered to the prior week's stabilisation. In today's trading the shares added 5.3 percent to EUR 1.10, leaving the stock 34 percent above its 52-week low.
