DroneShield Builds a 251 Million AUD Backlog While the Market Keeps Its Distance
Published on 09/26/2026 at 16:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deDroneShield is assembling the pieces of a larger defence franchise — a firm order book, a new research hub, a first sale for its latest sensor, and a fresh finance chief — yet none of it has been enough to lift the share price out of its slump. The Australian counter-drone specialist closed Friday at EUR 1.01, leaving it 73 percent below its 52-week high of EUR 3.79 and down 44 percent since the start of the year.
The gap between operational progress and market sentiment is the defining feature of the stock right now. Media reports point to a heavy short-selling position, lingering questions about governance, and cash burn from operations as the forces weighing on the valuation. A filing on the ASX requesting the quotation of securities has added another layer of uncertainty: the mandatory disclosure lists neither the number of instruments involved nor the purpose behind the move.
Order Book Locks In the Near Term
Against that backdrop, the company's contracted revenue offers a firmer footing. Roughly two weeks ago DroneShield raised its secured order volume, with EUR 251 million in binding revenue for the 2026 financial year — inside its guided range of EUR 250 million to EUR 270 million. Management has also banked EUR 46 million in contractual earnings for 2027 and beyond, giving the business room to scale capacity in step with demand from Western defence forces.
Adelaide Hub Anchors the Technology Push
That capacity is being matched by an expanding development footprint. A new research and development site in Adelaide will house dedicated dry laboratories for advancing the company's counter-drone systems and strengthen its software work. Reports from South Australia indicate the location will create around 20 specialist engineering roles, with the Australian Defence Magazine noting the centre is intended to deepen the technological foundation for systems that defend against unmanned aerial vehicles.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?
The commercial side of the new generation is moving too. DroneShield booked its first order for RfRecon, its AI-powered reconnaissance device, from an existing Western European military customer. Delivery is scheduled to run through the end of 2026. Industry observers read the win as validation of how far the company's sensor solutions have come.
US Fielding Complete, Laser Partnership in Place
Hardware milestones have kept pace. Under the JIATF-401 contract, DroneShield finished delivering, installing and acceptance-testing units of its DroneSentry-X Mk2, mounting them on Infantry Squad Vehicles for the US military alongside operator training. The system has now reached initial operational capability, and a contract amendment adds three more units to the order.
More than a month ago the company also teamed up with AIM Defence to pair the Fractl high-energy laser with the DroneSentry platform. The combined setup lets users direct sensors, software, command systems and directed energy through a single integrated architecture, aimed first at selected military and government customers.
A New CFO for the Next Leg
Steering the financial side through this expansion falls to Rebecca Lowde, named roughly two weeks ago as Chief Financial Officer effective 2 November 2026. She succeeds Carla Balanco, who departs after more than eight years with the company. Lowde brings three decades of experience spanning chief executive and senior finance roles, including debt refinancing and operating earnings growth at software firm MYOB — a track record the company expects to lean on as it scales its global activities.
With a filled order book, broader research capacity and a seasoned finance lead in place, DroneShield has set its course for the growth it is targeting. How efficiently it converts those contracted orders into profitable earnings over the coming quarters is the question that will ultimately decide whether the market's caution gives way.
