Deutz has nudged its profitability outlook higher, telling investors it now expects the adjusted EBIT margin for 2026 to land at the upper end of its 6.5% to 8.0% corridor. The upgrade, disclosed on Thursday, came alongside nine-month figures that showed earnings growing considerably faster than sales — yet the shares still gave up 2.0% in the following session, with media reports pointing to weakness across the defence sector as the drag. An earlier gain booked right after the numbers landed evaporated as pressure spread through the wider industry.

Orders Outpace Revenue

For the first nine months of 2026, Deutz booked incoming orders of EUR 1,962.5 million, up from EUR 1,504.5 million a year earlier. Revenue for the same stretch reached EUR 1,669.2 million, compared with EUR 1,500.4 million previously — a rise of 11.3%, or 12.3% on the company's own reckoning. The order intake therefore ran ahead of the top line, leaving the engine maker with a fuller backlog than it carried into the year.

The third quarter on its own contributed EUR 631.2 million in new orders and EUR 553.9 million in revenue.

Profitability improved more sharply still. Adjusted EBIT climbed to EUR 118.2 million from EUR 86.9 million, a gain of 36.0%, lifting the adjusted EBIT margin from 5.8% to 7.1%. The company's full-year revenue guidance of EUR 2.3 billion to EUR 2.5 billion was left untouched; the brighter earnings expectation applies within the existing margin band rather than to a raised sales target.

Analysts responded to the release by marking down their valuation. DZ Bank cut its fair value for Deutz from EUR 16 to EUR 15 on Thursday while maintaining a "Buy" rating, citing the FFG acquisition as the lever behind potential re-rating.

On the personnel front, the supervisory board extended the contract of CFO Oliver Neu through 30 September 2032. Neu is scheduled to take part in a live round-table on the defence strategy on 10 November 2026, and Deutz intends to publish its 2026 annual report on 30 March 2027.
