Deutz Finance Chief Stays Through 2032 as Analysts Trim Targets but Keep the Faith
Published on 11/06/2026 at 13:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deDeutz has extended finance chief Oliver Neu's contract through 2032, a show of boardroom stability that landed the same day a German newspaper reported the engine maker plans to cut as many as 300 more jobs in its engine business. The stock fell 4.1% yesterday. No link between the reported job reductions and the share price move has been established.
Two brokers remain firmly on the buy side even as they nudge their price targets lower. MPCM's Stefan Augustin cut his target to 18 euros from 19 while keeping a "Buy" rating, pointing to third-quarter orders that came in ahead of expectations. The valuation of comparable companies also fed into his new target, pairing an upbeat read on the business with a more cautious yardstick. DZ Bank, according to media reports, lowered its fair value to 15 euros from 16 while leaving its "Kaufen" rating in place.
Berenberg weighed in on the same day, reaffirming its buy recommendation with a 16.50-euro target. Analyst Lasse Stueben called the quarterly figures mixed, but flagged the early completion of the takeover of defence contractor FFG as an important step in the engine builder's transformation. The two houses thus land in the same camp with different emphases: MPCM leans on the surprisingly strong order intake and comparative valuations, while Berenberg sets the patchy operating picture beside the strategic weight of the acquisition.
A Quarter That Beat on Sales, Missed on Profit
The case for caution shows up in the numbers. Revenue for the third quarter rose 12.3% to 553.9 million euros, yet that fell short of the 562 million euros analysts had pencilled in. Adjusted EBIT came in at 38.5 million euros against a 40 million-euro consensus. Net profit slid to 6.9 million euros from 12.3 million euros a year earlier, according to RTTNews.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz?
Over the first nine months of 2026, Deutz booked revenue of 1,669.2 million euros and order intake of 1,962.5 million euros. Adjusted operating profit reached 118.2 million euros, and the adjusted EBIT margin climbed to 7.1% from 5.8% in the prior-year period. For the full year, the company is guiding to revenue of 2.3–2.5 billion euros.
The contrast between a growing top line and a shrinking bottom line is what shapes the analyst debate. The recommendations rest on demand and strategic repositioning; the recent earnings trend remains the soft spot. Better-than-expected orders only strengthen Deutz's case if they eventually translate into improved profit.
Insider Buying and a Date With the Defence Story
Alongside the contract extension, supervisory board member Melanie Freytag bought 5,000 shares for 48,175.64 euros on 30 October, with the disclosure published on Monday. An event titled "DEUTZ-Finanzchef im Dialog" is scheduled for 10 November 2026, promising insights into the company's defence strategy.
Deutz at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
MPCM had already reaffirmed its buy recommendation on 30 October, holding a 19-euro target at the time. That study followed the selection of vehicle platforms from Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft by the Netherlands.
The third quarter reads as a dampener rather than a break: sales and adjusted EBIT fell short, but the nine-month adjusted EBIT margin still improved to 7.1%. The 10 November appearance, with its window into the defence strategy, is the next test.
