Deutz Directors Back Restructuring With EUR 152,940 in Open-Market Purchases
Published on 10/17/2026 at 15:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo supervisory board members at Deutz have put their own money behind the Cologne engine maker's turnaround, snapping up shares worth a combined EUR 152,940 while the stock trades well below its yearly peak. Dr. Rudolf Maier bought stock worth EUR 99,540.00 at the start of the month, and Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter followed on 8 October with a purchase of 53,400.00 euros, according to mandatory disclosures.
The buying came as the shares changed hands at 10.82 euros at Friday's close, a gain of 1.6 percent on the day. That leaves the stock roughly 19 percent beneath its 52-week high, though it is still up 27 percent since the start of the year. No company news accompanied the latest rebound, pointing to a technical bounce after an overdone pullback.
Factory Review Weighs on Sentiment
Underneath the price action sits an uncomfortable question for investors: how much of Deutz's traditional engine business can be preserved. The company confirmed it is in talks with employee representatives over adjustments at its main Cologne plant, with decisions still pending. Handelsblatt reported that as many as 400 jobs could go, mainly in smaller drive systems. Around 100 positions have already been cut or are in the process of being wound down. Deutz has declined to comment on the 400 figure.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz?
Management is simultaneously redrawing the group's perimeter. The takeover of FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH, agreed more than a month ago, extends the company's reach. According to Handelsblatt, two shareholder representatives are set to leave the supervisory board early to make room for nominees of FFG's former owners — a boardroom reshuffle that ties the defence vehicle maker's backers directly into Deutz's governance.
Analysts Split on Pace, Not Direction
Brokerage opinion has converged on the upside even as the factory debate rumbles on. Bernstein Research reiterated its "Outperform" rating on Thursday with a 12.40 euro price target. Analyst Alasdair Leslie argued that the upturn in European capital goods is still at a relatively early stage of the cycle. A separate Bernstein note ahead of the quarterly figures highlighted the leaner set-up and said Deutz is on track to meet its full-year targets.
Earlier in the week, Warburg Research's Stefan Augustin kept a "Buy" rating with a 19 euro target, predicting a sharply higher order intake ahead of the results while cautioning that engine output will stay at a low level for now. Berenberg had already lifted its target from 13.00 to 16.50 euros on 7 October, maintaining "Buy".
November 5 Sets the Test
The next hard data point is fixed. On 5 November 2026 Deutz publishes its quarterly statement for the first three quarters of 2026 and hosts a conference call for analysts and investors. That release should show whether orders are genuinely building and whether the cost base is falling fast enough to offset weak demand in the legacy engine business — the question on which both the insider purchases and the bullish targets ultimately rest.
