Deutz Delivers First GEREON Ground Units to Ukraine as Defence Pivot Takes Shape

Deutz has handed over the first GEREON unmanned ground systems to the Ukrainian armed forces, marking a tangible operational milestone in the Cologne-based group's push beyond its traditional engine business. The units, produced at the company's Ulm plant, were delivered on Tuesday in partnership with ARX Robotics.
The handover forms part of a broader order whose exact volume and financial terms neither company disclosed. Ahead of the open, the stock was quoted at EUR 11.22, essentially flat.
Ulm Production Line and Expanding Platforms
Serial manufacturing of the GEREON units in Ulm represents a step forward in Deutz's advance into defence and robotics applications. The company's contribution to the partnership centres on its industrial manufacturing expertise along with drive and energy components.
Efforts in this segment are widening on other fronts as well. Under a memorandum of understanding, Deutz and Hypercraft agreed to deepen a strategic partnership. The arrangement covers the potential use of Deutz drive and energy systems on the partner's Razorback platform, alongside joint marketing of mobile technologies.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz?
Opening up to unmanned carrier and mobility systems is intended to reduce reliance on the traditional business. According to media reports, the share had recently come under temporary pressure from general uncertainty in the industrial environment, following its September highs.
Capital Injection and Insider Buying
Deutz secured backing for its strategic overhaul roughly two weeks ago via the capital market. By issuing 15,263,810 new shares at EUR 11.70 apiece, the engine maker generated gross proceeds of around EUR 179 million. The funds are chiefly intended to strengthen the capital structure and create room for future growth.
That the leadership bodies endorse the chosen path was underscored by purchases from the supervisory board after the placement closed:
- Supervisory board member Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter acquired shares worth EUR 55,900.00 on 24 September at a price of EUR 11.18 per share via Tradegate.
- Fellow supervisory board member Melanie Freytag bought shares through Xetra for an aggregate transaction volume of EUR 267,172.49.
Analyst Support and Upcoming Appointments
Institutional backing for the transformation remains intact. On 24 September 2026, the research house ODDO BHF reaffirmed its "Buy" rating on Deutz with a price target of EUR 16.50. On a year-to-date basis, the stock has held onto a substantial gain despite the recent consolidation: since the start of the year, the share has added 32 percent in value.
The sector backdrop, however, is less encouraging. The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) has cut its production forecast for the industry this year from stagnation to a decline of 2 percent. For the following year, the organisation expects a modest recovery, with production growth of 3 percent. That deterioration has yet to leave a mark on Deutz's share price, which has held up comparatively well through the year. The stock closed yesterday's session at EUR 11.23.
Key dates for capital market dialogue lie ahead in the coming weeks. Deutz will present itself at the SME Conference in Paris next Tuesday, 6 October. On 5 November 2026, the company will publish its quarterly statement for the first nine months of the 2026 financial year, accompanied by a telephone conference for analysts and investors.
