Deutz Balances Job-Cut Report Against Margin Gains as Analysts Split on Valuation
Published on 11/06/2026 at 11:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deDeutz shares fell 4.1% yesterday, the same day a Börsen-Zeitung report surfaced that the engine maker plans to cut up to 300 more jobs in its engine business. No link between the reported restructuring and the price move has been established.
The pullback came alongside a mixed analyst picture. DZ Bank trimmed its fair value for Deutz from €16 to €15 while keeping its "Buy" rating, with analyst Thorsten Reigber pointing to revaluation potential from the FFG takeover. MPCM, for its part, reaffirmed a buy recommendation on 30 October and left its price target at €19, a study tied to the Netherlands' selection of vehicle platforms from Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft.
Nine-month margins improve even as the third quarter lags
For the first nine months of 2026, Deutz reported revenue of €1,669.2m and order intake of €1,962.5m, up 30.4% year on year. Adjusted EBIT came in at €118.2m, a 36.0% jump, while sales rose 11.3%. The adjusted EBIT margin climbed to 7.1% from 5.8% a year earlier — evidence that growth came with stronger operating profitability.
The third quarter alone was softer. Revenue of €553.9m missed the €562m analyst consensus, and adjusted EBIT of €38.5m fell short of the €40m analysts had expected. Order intake in the quarter nonetheless rose by more than a third to roughly €631m, with sales up 12%.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz?
Deutz yesterday raised its margin expectation for 2026, now guiding the adjusted EBIT margin to the upper end of its prior 6.5–8.0% range. It left its revenue target of €2.3–2.5bn unchanged despite the stronger order book.
FFG takeover closed, with defence targets in focus
The FFG acquisition was reported as completed yesterday. Deutz expects the defence business to generate more than €1bn in revenue in 2027 at an adjusted EBITDA margin above 20%. Hitting those numbers would broaden the earnings base considerably — and underpin the revaluation case Reigber flagged.
Investors should track the two profitability metrics separately: the FFG guidance is framed in adjusted EBITDA, while the group outlook rests on the adjusted EBIT margin.
Governance and insider signals
Deutz extended the contract of CFO Oliver Neu through 2032. Supervisory board member Melanie Freytag bought 5,000 shares for €48,175.64 on 30 October, a disclosure published on Monday. A "DEUTZ-Finanzchef im Dialog" event is scheduled for 10 November 2026, with insights into the defence strategy on the agenda.
What to watch
The central test is whether Deutz converts its larger order book into profitable revenue and delivers the promised FFG contribution. Hold the higher operating margin through order execution and the case for a positive view stands; let earnings quality slip and the growth story would need a more cautious read. The 10 November event, with its defence-strategy preview, is the next concrete checkpoint.
