Deutz Analysts See 49% Upside as Board Members Put Their Own Money to Work

ODDO BHF sets a EUR 16.50 target on Deutz, about 49% above its EUR 11.08 close, as board members buy shares after a EUR 179 million capital raise.

ODDO BHF has handed Deutz a "Buy" rating with a price target of EUR 16.50, a call that landed on the company's page on September 24 and now sits roughly 49% above where the Cologne engine maker's shares actually trade. Analyst Klaus Ringel's optimism arrives at a moment when Deutz is still digesting the aftereffects of a major financing move — and when several members of its supervisory board have been quietly accumulating stock.

The stock closed Friday at EUR 11.08, giving the company a market capitalization of EUR 1.69 billion. Its 50-day moving average stands at EUR 11.27, a level the shares are currently trading just below.

A EUR 179 Million Cash Injection

Roughly two weeks ago, Deutz completed a capital increase that reshaped both its balance sheet and its share count. The company issued 15,263,810 new shares from authorized capital, excluding shareholders' subscription rights, at a placement price of EUR 11.70 apiece. The transaction generated gross proceeds of approximately EUR 179 million.

The issuance lifted Deutz's share capital by 10%, bringing the total number of shares outstanding to 167,901,915. Management intends to deploy the net proceeds toward optimizing the company's capital structure and widening its financial room to maneuver for future growth opportunities.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz?

Trading pressure followed the placement, as the enlarged share supply and the dilution of existing holdings weighed on the stock. Traders quoted by dpa-AFX framed the pullback as a market reaction to an earlier rally, tying the move to the company's FFG acquisition.

Insiders Step In

Against that backdrop, supervisory board members have been buying. On September 24, board member Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter acquired Deutz shares worth a combined EUR 55,900.00 at a price of EUR 11.18 per share. Such transactions tend to draw close attention from investors, who often read them as a sign that those closest to the company believe in its strategic direction.

Voggenreiter's purchase was not an isolated one. Earlier in September, fellow supervisory board member Melanie Freytag bought 22,730 shares for a total of EUR 267,172.49. Helmut Ernst followed shortly afterward with a package of 7,000 shares.

Betting on Unmanned Ground Vehicles

The boardroom buying coincides with a strategic push beyond Deutz's traditional engine business. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in unmanned systems and mobile drive solutions.

Deutz at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

At the center of the arrangement is Hypercraft's Razorback unmanned ground vehicle. Under the agreement, the two partners are examining how Deutz's hybrid, battery and energy systems can be adapted for Hypercraft's platforms. They are also weighing joint development and marketing of future vehicle platforms, along with the possibility of assembly and final acceptance work at one of the engine maker's own sites. Any binding commitments would be negotiated separately.

For now, the gap between ODDO BHF's EUR 16.50 target and the EUR 11.08 close reflects a market still weighing how quickly that vision translates into revenue — and how much of the fresh EUR 179 million war chest it will take to get there.
