Deutsche Telekom's Buyback, Fiber Plans and Split Analyst Targets Set Up a November 5 Reckoning
Published on 11/02/2026 at 17:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deDeutsche Telekom is running its capital policy on two tracks at once — retiring its own equity in the market while pushing fresh money into network infrastructure and venture-stage technology. The buyback update published today sits alongside a string of investment and build-out announcements, giving investors a mixed picture: a shrinking share count on one side, new growth avenues on the other, and an operating story that still has to carry the weight.
Buyback tally and a Swedish health-tech bet
For last week, the Bonn-based group reported the repurchase of 6,017,301 of its own shares. Cumulative purchases since August 10 reached 44,155,725 shares as of Friday.
The buybacks are only one slice of how the company is deploying capital. Alongside them, Deutsche Telekom is funding its network and, through its T.Capital vehicle, taking stakes in technology companies. Judging the strategy therefore requires more than the repurchase volume — the trajectory of the underlying businesses matters just as much.
On October 27, the group disclosed that T.Capital had joined the Series B financing round of Tandem Health, a Swedish health-tech firm. No investment sum was given. The stake opens an additional field of investment, but its financial weight cannot be quantified from the announcement, so it belongs in the strategic-step column rather than the proven-earnings column for now.
Fiber reach grows as Berlin-Britz enters the pipeline
On the home front, infrastructure expansion continues. Deutsche Telekom reported 255,000 additional fiber connections for September, bringing the total to 14.4 million households and businesses able to use the fiber network — and, according to the company, tariffs of up to 2,000 Mbit/s.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?
That September figure describes what has already been achieved. A separate announcement on Friday pointed to what comes next: roughly 3,400 further households and companies in Berlin-Britz are slated for access, with construction scheduled to begin in February 2027. The distinction matters. A planned build-out does not yet enlarge the number of available connections, and neither set of numbers should be confused with signed customer contracts. Reach alone does not translate into a revenue contribution.
The mobile network is advancing in parallel. In September the company brought 72 new sites into service and raised capacity at 503 existing locations — additional footprint and upgraded infrastructure side by side.
T-Mobile US delivers the hard numbers
Concrete earnings support came from the US subsidiary. T-Mobile US reported third-quarter 2026 net profit of USD 3.5 billion on Thursday, a 27% increase year on year. Management also raised its guidance for operating profit and cash flow.
That gives the German parent a positive operating backdrop for its capital policy — though it says nothing definitive about the group result as a whole. JPMorgan's Akhil Dattani made the same point from a different angle on Thursday, keeping Deutsche Telekom at "Overweight" with a EUR 38 price target and citing the US arm's results and lifted full-year guidance ranges.
Barclays trims its target as structural risks mount
Not every analyst is leaning the same way. On October 20, Barclays' Maurice Patrick cut his price target to EUR 32 from EUR 35 while reaffirming an "Overweight" rating. He flagged satellite technology and agentic AI as industry-wide risks — a combination of continued positive recommendation and more cautious valuation expectations.
The takeaway for shareholders is that neither the buybacks nor any single stake is the decisive yardstick. What counts is whether operating growth and cash flow underpin the capital course being pursued. The next checkpoint arrives on November 5, 2026, when the group publishes its third-quarter report.
